The RulesThe game will take place in a ladder-like tournament system. Each match will be "best out of 3". Players will submit their ship hull designs to Shad0wdump. They may place the weapons they want on the ships where they want them, but Shad0w will be switching them all out with modified-stat weapons (for balance and anti-cheating reasons.) Players must use sprites from the stock sprites and
The Shad0wdump-Volatar Sprite Pack, but they may suggest custom sprites to be included in the pack. (We want people to use the sprites they want, but will need the sprites ourselves and will need the sprites when we release a pack of the ships used in the contest.)
Players will be free to choose their own ship color schemes. They must use a unified color scheme across their whole fleet however.
Players may use either normal-style sprites, or SW-style, or a mix. Whatever looks good. (If you mix the styles they better look good, or Shad0w will kill a kitten.)
Matches will be hosted by Volatar and commentated by Volatar and Shad0wdump live. Matches will also be posted on youtube in much higher quality than the live broadcast.
ResearchEach player recieves 3 research attempts at the start of the tournament. After each match players recieve another research attempt.
Research is freeform, simply give a concept you want to research and a roll will be made to determine if you get it. (example,"I want a high-power blaster", if you succeed you will then be able to add a 'high power blaster' to your ship designs, you could also say "I want more powerful blasters" and a global enhancement to damage will be made.) The chance of research is taken from the 'difficulty' of the topic being researched. Researching "slightly better armor" will be much more likely to succeed than researching for a "TESLA 1-HIT KILL DEATH CANNON OF DOOM!"
Ideas for research can be obtained from
Shad0wdump's BSF Strategy Game, but are not limited to those ideas in any way.
You may place weapons direcly on a ship or within turret mounts. When weapons are placed direcly on a ship they have a firing arc of 90°. Turret mounts have an arc of 270° Turrets also have a 50% higher turn rate than the base turn rate. The price of a turret is that of the mounted weapons plus 1/3rd.
Basic Turrets are researched from the start for all players. (It is also possible to research enhanced turrets in various ways. Increased firing arcs, benefits for the mounted weapons and other such things.)
Ship Stats and CostsHull cost is Base HP times the number of hull sections.
Base HP is calculated by the equation ((# of sections - 2) * 25)
Example:
# of Sections - Base HP - Total Hull cost
3 - 25 - $75
4 - 50 - $200
5 - 75 - $375
6 - 100 - $600
7 - 125 - $875
8 - 150 - $1200
9 - 175 - $1575
10 - 200 - $2000
11 - 225 - $2475
etc.
Ships must have at least 3 sections.
Stats such as speed, turn rate, and acceleration cannot be modified by players but are edited according to ship size.
Ship spawners will not be allowed (at least for now) as they are extremely difficult to balance.
Players start with three random weapons and a single PD, chosen randomly from below. These initial random weapons are not related to research (though players may research the weapons they do not recieve from this list if they so choose. Do not feel limited to this list however.)
-Blaster - $400
-Pulse - $300
-Dumbfire Missile - $150
-Machinegun - $150
-Autocannon - $450
PD:
-Flak - $400
-Particle Gun - $350
-Point Beam - $350
