I have a 2gb memorystick, so I would have to chunk up all of my folders into horrible, bite-sized pieces.

What do I do

Your red mage avatar is really funny. Mostly because it's red mage. And how you just said that.

You're welcome, but be warned, I've always found networks to be a pain in the arse.
Yeah, they are stupid-hard.
Imma  winrar the files and memorystick them over  ;)

Find someone with a +5 harddrive of holding, copy everything you on to, then onto the new drive.

Oh, but you may have to roll to see if the files passes its CRC checks.

Speaking of vague Dnd analogies, is making a RAR with RAR files in it like putting a bag of holding into a bag of holding (IE. an explosion).

Well, putting tarball into .rar does not make it EXPLODE, at least.

And I remember to have recursively rar-ring 3 times (but the file size does not shrink considerably again)

Unfortunately Rar's are only very minor bags of holding and doesn't eliminate all the weight of the objects you put in. So if you put these bad bags of holding into another one of these bad bags, you'll just get a really heavy bag.

(On a non-dnd note, a rar is already compressed. So trying to rar a rar file is going to give you 0% compression on the second rar. Which is also why it's a silly reason to rar or zip jpeg and mp3 files. They're all ready compressed.)

If you have multiple Jpegs or mp3s, though, that becomes an entirely different matter.

Just plug both devices into a router with a simple RJ-45 cable. That's the easiest way to set a network up, if you ask me. Transfer rate will probably be the fastest in that case too.

I would just move the hard drive from the old laptop to the new one :P (if the old hard drive was bigger)

Or find this USB cable instead of setting up a network:

http://www.amazon.com/USB-Cable-Adapter-2-5-Inch-3-5-Inch/dp/B000I0VIYE

But the price's insane. I can get one of those very cheap, no more than HKD40, which is just a few dollars in USD.
