If you have useless "cultural sleepers" or Media Cons, why not bring them out of sleeperdom and send them writing for the Liberal Guardian? The more writers you get, the more powerful the Guardian is, and the Guardian affects all issues, so if you get a ton of people writing, and just press W all the time instead of disband, you should theoretically be able to affect those obscure issues.

Ugh. I went with this route and it took a good 16 years of holding 'w' to win. And this was with maybe 10 LE and 30 LG writers for the Guardian. Ugh.

(It was kinda funny seeing my writer gang, though - they were for the most part a rabid pack of assorted ex-brainwashees juiced up on hacking, with Writing, Computer, and Persuasion of 15-20, and Leadership of 10. Had I been less lazy I suppose I could have singled out a couple of the Agents and CEOs to do brutally effective direct action to speed things up, but at that point it seemed like too much work.)

I used to shove all failed kidnapping attempts into the Guardian, for that reason exactly.

EDIT: It's funny how badly some of the laws get massacred in nightmare mode.  First time, I'm using this strategy and I haven't done any activism yet.  All 6 liberal pieces of legislation were passed by the house, and two of them were actually forced through the president :P.

But the President and Vice President are supposed to be C+, and therefore ideologically opposed to all non-C+ laws. How then did the President force through a non-C+ law?

The senate can force through a law if more than 2/3rds approve, I think.  Laws which get the required amount of support in the senate cannot be vetoed.  I'm not totally familiar with the American system, though.

Oh, and the Supreme Court liberalised 2 other ones.  Must've been a slow year, those were the only cases.

EDIT:  Realised the ambiguity.  The law was forced through the President (against his wishes), not forced through by the president.

Gotcha. Yeah, the House and the Senate can override a veto.

So basically Nightmare mode is the same only with all laws starting on C+?  It's funny how some get overturned without you doing anything, heh.

That and the CCS starts off active.

It doesn't, does it?  I thought that was "We didn't start the fire" mode where that happened.  After all, it is possible to play "Classic" Nightmare mode, isn't it?

It is indeed possible to play Classic Nightmare mode. Nightmare and We Didn't Start The Fire are two seperate things.

This thread has some great tips and still feels very relevant to the newest 4.00.5 ver.  Reading through the thread I had an idea.

Shouldn't there be natural outlets of Liberal Influence beyond just the Liberal Guardian (which goes out of print upon disband unless I am mistaken)?  A New York Times-like newspaper (The Grey Lady) with an office downtown.  Someone is printing those newspaper headlines before I setup the Guardian.  In a very Cons climate it would be inhabited with Transients and College Students, but as public opinion began to favor such Liberal Journalism it would be staffed with more professionals and become a target for CCS infiltration.  CCS could even have a indoctrination program of their own to counteract LCS sleepers, with perhaps a new gameplay type to expose CCS sleepers.

What other types of Liberal Infrastructure should exist?  An NPR Radio station with a similar function to the Newspaper, to promote Liberalism but struggles to survive in a Cons climate, needs some Public Arts and Culture Funding laws to be in effect.  Maybe if tax codes and welfare laws are passed a former Crack House could become a Welfare Office that would be also liberally staffed.  The FREE Clinic seems like a very liberal institution and I wonder if it should really exist in Cons climate.  And if it does exist it would be a prime target for CCS site action.  A Planned Parenthood Office could also exist in a more liberal climate.

Essentially, the principal sites beyond the safe houses are conservative strongholds that the LCS must degrade.  Addition of Liberal Strongholds that the CCS would target (and the LCS could Liberally Defend) should open an exciting new dimension to gameplay and make the CCS much more relevant.

A liberal newspaper slowly infiltrated by conservative vigilante's and turned into an arch-conservative mouthpiece?  It's called the Washington Post.
