EXTREME, you say?! That almost makes me want to make an RTD where every roll is either a heroic triumph or an epic fail.

I'd say that both scales work quite well.

I can see the point of having a damage roll(kinda) but I don't get how somebody could dodge a hammer they swung at themselves.

I'm fine with the GM skipping the damage part of rolls on (fairly) simple actions, so long as the damage done makes sense.

Hmmm ... Suddenly I want to host a "Hope to Dodge" game, where I arbitrarily decide whether people get hurt or not, and how badly.

Because my idea has more dice, therefore more danger.  Because then you don't feel bad when somebody rolls 3 1's and gets killed. Instantly.

6: You run up the the nearest bandit, and keep going! RTD 4: The bandit fails to get out of the way, and you plough him into the ground like a giant extra-dimensional radioactive titanium-alloy cast bulldozer! 5: You invent a new drink. You affectionately dub it Bandite Ala' Puree.

+1 Strength
+2 to Cooking
+4 to Hand-To-Hand

... It's only a flesh wound. I was expecting explosions.

Go outside, devise a rune of regeneration, and draw it on the ground with a stick. Activate it to heal my hand.

Edit - I should clarify that my character is right handed, and is quite capable of drawing without using his left hand.
1+1=2: You suddenly realize that you don't know any healing runes, or any healing spells at all. Regardless, you decide to attempt at drawing one anyway. You carve an interesting design into the ground, then place your hand on it. Luck 1: The rune glows in a sickly green light! Your left arm falls off.

Left Arm: Missing(-2 to actions that use two hands)

I'll go check out the barracks and start to think up some clever way of expanding it.
Such as modular sections which can be stacked on top of each other.
2+1=3: You head over to the barracks and begin searching for a way to expand it. However, you don't find much that could be of use to you; the barracks are wedged between a large statue of the famous wizard Kylorin and the city walls. The only way to expand would be to demolish the city wall, which certainly wouldn't be a cheap alternative.
Cast terra strike on the nearest bandit
That just blows.  We may actually have a chance of dieing, thanks for bringing me along chris.
3+1=4: You focus your power in an effort to lift a large stone from the earth. A rock bursts through the floorboards! RTD 6: The remaining bandit is quickly jumps out of the way, but stumbles(-1 to actions).

+2 to Elementalism

Attempt to learn water magic.
2: You find a pond and try to control the water inside of it. All you manage to do is make ripples on the surface of the pond.
Intelligence Roll!
5: Suddenly, you get an idea. What if you tried to apply the principled of the flow of air to water? You try to apply this principle, and you force a jet of water to fly up in the air, which comes down like a fountain.

+4 to Elementalism
New Spell: Aqua Jet

That could potentially be slightly problematic.

I grab my arm, and return to the academy. Surely I'll be able to find some novice healer who wants to practice.

There is no possible way in which this could go wrong. None at all.
