Problems with pre-genned maps
« on: September 15, 2009, 07:22:17 am »

I am a new player trying to get into dwarf fortress, using 40d16 Mayday Graphics Edition. I want to use some pre-genned maps. Both the downloadable zips, seeds, and worldgen.txt's don't work for me. They always look the same as the original on thwe 2 zoomed out maps, but the loacl maps are way different. Brooks, rivers, magama pipes, etc. are all missing.

Any Ideas

Different versions of DF will have subtly different changes in the world generation.

The different D versions are all save compatible however, so the solution is to find out what version the map was generated in, generate it in that and then copy the save over to your DF of choice.

Mayday's mod is not only a graphical alteration.  If you were to download unmodified d16, and add the graphics without copying over the raws, you would generate the correct map, probably.

Mayday's mod is not only a graphical alteration.

So, so so many people are not aware of this and the reason is:
He doesn't tell anyone.
It's listed as a graphical alteration, and nothing more.

I'm pretty sure the only other thing it changes is that annoying cat_mouth fix?

And the entire language files.   And the tile numbers of nearly everything.

Didn't know about the language files, but the tile numbers would be to make the stuff match up with the graphics.

The language files thing is so names don't have levers and whatnot in them. Would any of the things mentioned here really have an impact on worldgen?

It's entirely possible they would actually.
