i am very new to the game, and basically, want to know how to get a legendary engraver dude, so i can engrave all my halls and stuff.

i didint bring anyone with engraver stat though,

secondly: i have a dual weaponsmith, armorsmith fellow, how do i get him off his lazy, drunken dwarf butt and get him producing metal weapons? i have discovered micah, but thats it. Can i use Micah to make some sort of armor? or should i start diggin' ?

PS: whats this catsplosion i have heard about, and does it involve exploding cats, or their population exploding? because i have a few too many cats hanging around... maybe i can feed them to the carp ^_^

Engraving uses the same skill as smoothing floors/walls. Just have a guy smooth walls (since skill doesn't matter for that except for the speed at which he does it) and floors all over the place to train his skill before you have him start engraving.

Mica is just rock. The wiki (linked in the previous post) has info on that sort of stuff. As should be obvious, you can't make metal items without actually having metal. The wiki has a list of metals and ores you can get them from, and some info on how to do it.


The catsplosion refers to population expansion of cats. The thing is that cats adopt their own owners instead of vice-versa like most pets, and owned pets can't be butchered, so you can wind up with your cat population increasing exponentially without much you can do about it. Players tend to wind up butchering or selling or otherwise getting rid of kittens as soon as they show up in order to help stop this.

Gold is useless. The medium of exchange in any decent mountainhome is a pickaxe. Make statues out of it then piff them at traders. Just to show how much you don't care about their +rope reed cloth+.

Conventional Catsplosion: Try embarking with two cats, see what happens (be sure to have some way to kill them off later (flooding your fortress with magma is pretty effective.
