Got a Super Virus!
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:11:15 am »

Alright well on my laptop I finally contracted a super virus. Though so far my computer is alright.

What it does is it pretends to be my windows firewall and fake scans my computer so that I will download the real virus.

Usually stopping there is all good and dandy but given time it will entirely destroy my computer.

I need help quick... My Laptop has an outdated spyware detector and no virus protection!

Best of all it Disabled my old Spyware protection somehow.

Format your computer.

I kinda REALLY need what is on this computer. I want to at least attempt to remove it before I reformat.

I don't know. Take it to your local computer genius, and don't do any internet surfing.

Why are you posting!?!

I am trying to get Adware professional on the job... and if not that then Spybot... Hopefully they can find something. If not Ill need some sort of virus protection. (honestly Spyware and Viruses are so alike now they should stop splitting them up)

Anyhow because time is of the essence. Anyone know a good free Antivirus program?

Update on Status: I have virus protection somehow... It just hasn't scanned in over 3 years. So well see how well this goes. Though given that it is called "rogers online protection" I don't have a lot of faith.

I used to use the AVG virus scanner, but I cannot remember if it deletes viruses. I would advise getting something quick from your local store and shutting your computer down in the meantime.

It really isn't an option. In fact I need to use this computer for another two hours today.

Hense why it is somewhat of an emergency.

If both my virus protection and my spyware protection see nothing... Then I will rule it out as a very intelligently constructed pop-up that I didn't activate.

Update
The Spyware protection found 108 peices of spyware but not the super virus.

Well when ye have the time take it into the local computer store (mind you not the big chains like best buy who will gouge you probably) and have them run a virus scan and stuff. Dispite having the "most up to date" virus protection I would not be surprised if they had something better.

Holy goodness I've seen what Bestbuy charges.

It costs $40+ dollars just for them to plug your computer in.

Alright I got the virus under control and updated my anti-spyware to the next version.

Thanks for all your help.

Sorry for my stabbing words if it offended anyone. I don't take back what I said only how I said it.
