Besides, it's somehow enjoyable to think of groundhogs stacked to the very top of a cage and flooding out to kill.

Go into Legends mode, then select 'export detailed map' by pressing d, then select the type of view you want and press Enter. It will generate a bmp file in your DF folder.

You can also go into Legends->Historical Maps then select a year, then disable territories by pressing Enter, then press p if you want to export ASCII map.

That's a pretty nifty world indeed!

anyone know how do get smooth maps though?
like these ones Toady posted...
Spoiler: big smooth map 1 (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: big smooth map 2 (click to show/hide)

Edit: Gah! they're huge... um probably better to just follow these links rather than open the spoiler jokes... 1 and 2

I forget the buttons but in legends mode you pick export detailed map, and then pick the standard biome site map from the list.

When I first looked at it I thought that would do the basic map view, but that's the one your looking for.

The buttons:

Go to legends mode, press "d", then "enter".  Wait for it to finish.  Then you have a nice, smooth map!

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

You can get heightmaps too, which can be used to make a 3d version of your world.
