Dropping Anvils and Stones
« on: September 13, 2009, 10:41:05 pm »

Simple enough. Falling items can damage creatures.

Among other things, this would force us to design our stonefall traps rather than have EZ-build magic versions. Bridge-flinging would need some new considerations with weight first to prevent insane shrapnel-bombs, and deconstruction projects would need some more caution to prevent your workers from getting beaned in the head.

Thoughts?

The catch is that dwarves have to be smart enough to work with these restrictions. Not, for instance, prone to stranding themselves on the wrong side of a floodgate or constructed wall. Same would go for intelligently avoiding acts that would dump things unnecessarily.

Might be nice if dwarves could be set to move debris off of a floor before deconstructing it, for instance. (Or not, if you've managed to trap some goblins a few levels under that constructed floor and want to bring the literal roof down...)

Have the mechanics construct a piano-fall trap post-haste!

I think the piano may be too recent an invention to make it into the game.  You may have to settle for a falling harpsicord.

Anvil traps and other sorts of 'drop things' and 'catapult' threads have been bandied about.

The longest thread about the idea was necro'd just a few months ago.
