Boredom
« on: September 13, 2009, 09:21:08 pm »

Has any of you ever been so bored that you became dizzy, or the room started spinning?

I remember in a high school chemistry class, someone said this.  I dismissed it until a few years later when I was in a college English class, someone said the exact same thing.

I don't know why I'm bringing this up now, so many years later.  But I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced this first hand.

I'm talking more about getting dizzy or disoriented from boredom rather than getting sleepy or falling asleep.

Boredom -> Drowsiness -> Spinning room.

I was lacking sleep yesterday and fought to stay awake in class. The class wasn't particularly boring (well, not for those who enjoy morphology and gaussian pyramids).. sitting there for 2 hours was what made me disoriented. I guess that was what narcolepsy felt like.

I don't get bored.  If I feel myself starting to get bored, I retreat into my own world containing whatever I've been doing recently (current world contains: My LCS story, mafia games, Haruhi Suzumiya (reading the novels now), the newspaper I get every day, world events...) and that can keep me entertained for... well... ages.  I become rather unresponsive when in this state - I'm told it looks like I've entered a trance.

Ditto.  Except when I do this I have to walk around.  Usually in circles, which leads to some strange looks I don't really notice.

Double ditto.

I lie down and do it. It's my 'creative phase'.

I never achieve anything.

Comedy Gold!  :-D

Yeah, If I'm ever bored in class I write down little writings of my own, quite fun.  Keeps you going.  Like, sometimes I'll do mafia theory or sometimes I'll do little ancedotes.

When I'm bored I doodle.

Or write.

Or sleep. Or go jogging.

Anything as long as I don't just sit there. ;D

One time, I got so bored in Study hall, I just stared at the wall until it started talking to me.

I think it's an effect of growing up. I noticed when I was younger that if I rested my head lower than my shoulders for too long a period, the world would start spinning and I would get nauseus. Perhaps when you're bored, your head is too low or something?
