There are many types of heroes.(Depends on who you are, for example, you might like Hitler (He wasn't that bad as Himmler), fine, if you are pro-*Insert country here* you might say your military)

Napoleon was considered a hero before he went jackass and declared himself emperor.

And, another I would consider is Jean Lafitte, who helped the Americans defend Louisiana from Brits. Though he is more like a robin hood due to being a pirate.

Also, my Grandfather, a US Military Private, who was in the phillipines when the Japanese invaded, he got captured, but he escaped with some others and worked a bit with the resistance.

The valiant soldiers of all the sides in the World Wars. (Even the germans and japanese, they fought to the end.)

Frankly I think the real traitor in that scenario was America.

Forgive my skepticism, but at a glance I'd say that a key part of legitimate scientific achievements is their replicability...

Somehow you make it sound as if he became evil in becoming Emperor. Emperor Napoleon was a fairly progressive ruler in all respects, and in fact the Napoleonic code had a long lasting influence in the world's lawmaking. That aside, he was a badass who took on pretty much all the world and stood a pretty good chance of winning for a long time. Heck, he probably would have won at Waterloo hadn't he met with some unexpected bad weather.

I looked through the badass website, Nikola Tesla tops it for me. I mean, he did successful, confirmed, scientific experiments using 1900 (or less) technology which we can't even replicate now. He powered 200 lightbulbs from 28 miles away, in a desert, through thin air, using spare parts. MIT students go crazy when they can do that over 7 feet. Not to mention the Tesla Coil, a lightning generator. It's completely pointless but completely awesome and therefore, best invention ever.

He is the most dorfen of all; completely insane, pointless yet awesome.

Nikola Tesla was a scary man, if even a quarter of the shit he claimed he could do was true then he's the closest the world has ever come to a true mad scientist with a world-destroying superweapon.

If he was around today, he'd probably have invented mechas and would be prancing around Germany kicking buildings over for fun.

It all depends on your definition of a hero and there's no such thing as an exclusively right one.

I didn't claim my definition was the only right one. I claimed it seems I'm the only one to use ANY exclusive and clear definition at all. Most people seem to just list random relatives or awesome people.
