Quantum stockpiles. Couldn't live without them (unless stone spam was somehow fixed at the same time)

They seemed more like a slime to me. Or "The Thing" from the movie by the same name.

But yeah, statistically they were like land-bound carps.

Urist McCready cancels chess: Saving groundhog from elves.
uhh shouldn't that be the other way round?... wait that doesn't work either... perhaps
Urist McCready cancels chess: Laughing at elves being eaten by groundhog

At the beginning of John Carpenter's The Thing, McCready (shortly after throwing a glass of what I believe was alcohol down a chess computer's MoBo) goes outside to find some ... what was it... Swedish or something... guys in a helicopter grenading a wolfish breed of dog. The doctor I think puts a bullet through one's eye and the other blows himself up with a grenade. Turns out the dog was "The Thing" and proceeded to infect mostly everybody.

This gentleman was comparing a groundhog to "The Thing" so I just tried to make something witty.

ah i see, well i havn't watched it so it went right over my head :D

water that can't travel diagonally through gaps, allowing for dwarves to travel through while keeping waves out.

If it's any consolation, I got it and liked it.

You assume that Maniac dwarves are bugs?

I consider them Cannon. Look at Threetoe's stories. Look at Strange Moods.

Dwarves in Dwarf Fortress have quarks just like the necrophagic elves. They are mentally unstable, subject to extreme mood swings, and occasionally work on acts of who-knows-what inspired madness. They get so upset if they are unable to complete said acts of madness that they will hurl themselves into chasms or go on a murderous rampage.

While I believe it was originally an accident for dwarves to be insane and moody, I believe that it has become cannon.

Now all that is left is giving Goblins and Kobolds their own unique, -not like the other guy- personalities.

...and given us things like ninja elephants and infernal carp.
If that's a reference to one of my own past posts, it was ninja hippos.

If not, carry on.  And I shall be interested in seeing how the ninja hippo clan fare against the ninja elephant clan. :)

(Possible replies to the title question will be made once I've read more of the thread!)

Canon not cannon.

No, definitely cannon. Canon has religious connections. Cannons make big noises and cause lots of mischief.

Honestly, thinking a single N is enough for dwarves, what were you thinking?

I'm so glad I've seen that movie already, because if I hadn't, I would be just about to find out where you live and kill you for that horrendous spoiler.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I don't think it's too big of a spoiler.
It pretty much sets up the premise for the entire movie.

Yeah, I think after 27 years the Statute of Limitations for spoiling that movie have expired. ;)

That is a wasteful idea that recklessly endangers life. I applaud your genius!
There are as many ways to play the game as there are socks on a battlefield.

I'm not sure if that was helpful or not. >..>
I mean, I've seen Citizen Kane (and the Matrix, which is why that XKCD is funny)...
