Seeing as more and more files are being infected I thought it'd be good to have a place to ask if something is safe or not.

To make things simple please use this chart to post

A Paragraph or so of Writing to help us understand what the thing your are looking for is and why you suspect it.

1 If your trying to find a certain _____ that your are unsure of please read the WHOLE thread before posting one about it. I will try to maintain some kind of table to help.

2 If you are below an [Active] post please try to solve it then post your own

This thread is to ask about Downloads/Sites that might have viruses on them.

So if I wanted to get say a file of a Fileplanet but I'm not sure if its a safe file I'd ask here

I download DF > Friend asks about DF > I confirm its safe > he downloads DF

Why not just download the file and run it through a virus scanner?

Why not just download the file and run it through a virus scanner?
Well by then its to late for the downloader. Think of it as a topic where if someone has downloaded the item in question before they can warn others to not do so. Some virus scanners are not made alike.

Please note that downloaded installers don't always show their contents as their are some bad installers out there. Now can we Blank out these posts?

And now we come to the true point of this thread, piracy. The only way you're going to get infected with anything is if you're stupid enough to download from places you don't trust and / or don't have up-to-date antivirus / spyware / whateverware scanners and nukers installed. If you don't trust the site, don't download it. If you don't have a choice, then scan it. It's that simple, folks. No 'megathread' needed.

I scaned it , but that doesn't make it any safer than installing it right away.All Anti Viruses have defects somewere, plus you could actually help then complain.

By the look of it, Abandonia isn't a piracy site; they have downloads for old games no longer sold.

The whole idea of 'abandonware' is still piracy. Unless the publisher comes out and says that it's okay to download, it's still covered under all the appropriate copyright laws, no matter how frustrating it may be. There is no such thing as abandonware.
