Why din't I think of this before?!
« on: September 10, 2009, 04:11:42 pm »

After getting a twenty wave of immigrants filled with soapmakes, lyemakers, and cheese makers it suddenly hit me.

I could mod out useless professions easily!

Will taking them out cause any negative side effects? Assuming I don't care for cheese.

You might need to re-gen the world. But otherwise it should be swell.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

It works like a charm actually, currently I have created a draconic playable race with all farming stuff removed. So it is only meat for them and no booze, just water.

Is there anyway to get rid of peasants? I noticed they are not a job per se.

I doubt it is possible by modding considering these are dwarfs without any skill to start with, most likely you will get more of those during an imigration because there are less soapmakers in the kingdom  :P

This doesn't work. Soap makers and whatnot still show up, it's just that you can't set anyone else that skill.

Indeed.  You encounter this quite often if you play Kobold Camp.  I exploited this fact to get a metalworking industry going, even though Kobolds aren't supposed to be able to do that.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Well, you could change their profession once they arrive to something other than what they are. Dwarves are cunning creates. You can give them whatever job you want.

[Edit] As to not sound irreverent, what I mean to say is that it sucks you can't mod them out. You can mod them out from being assigned that job in Fortress mode, but it doesn't solve the issue at hand. There are workarounds, and you're probably well versed in them.
