A person that's active lurking ISN'T being helpful to the town.  However, that's a PART of the game, not running against it.  That's a big reason why a mod should accept a PM from a player as proof of 'activity': so they can keep not posting but prove that they are 'in the game'. 

Santa mafia had a feature to deal with that: everyone had to PM the host at night.  It was a part of the game due to the fact you aren't sure your role, BUT, even if you knew, you still had to PM to show your activity.  I'm thinking of incorperating it into other games as well.  That way you know everyone is active when the next day shows.  Night is also a nice time to put in a replacement so the town doesn't waste time accusing the 'lurker' only to find out they are AFK instead.  (yes, it can still happen during long days, but oh well )

A 'willing replacement list' sounds like a nice idea.  Perhaps it's best to put that into the sign up of each game.  That way the 'replacements' will be active from Day 1 and keep up with the game, making actual replacing easier to work with.

I haven't been lynched yet, although I may be if Religion Mafia 2 keeps going.  Then again, I haven't been scum yet.

I've only ever been lynched once, and that was to break the game. Until Webadict died on us.

Oh yeah, I read that part.  Does seem a little broken, yes.  Weirdly, Frelock also made Webadict a confirmed towny in Toon Mafia 3.  Could be a trend.

Kashy, it wasn't just the 'lurking' for me.  He poked at  people left and right, voted for me, then 'lurked' when I defended myself.  The 'anti-town role' didn't help either since Religious doesn't really have one.  I took it for "he's not merc but gotta get the town to hate him anyway".  I read the silence as "he's dead so best just to lurk until deadline".

@Leaf:  pretty much, though I have wondered why they switched the Godfather with the roleblocker.  The godfather helps ruin the cop's power, which, I think, is a great way to keep newbies from relying on him (I note both Beginners had the town focus on the day game to find scum and never put much thought of the power roles).  Roleblocker isn't as cop nullifying and a little redundant since mafia would more likely want to kill the power role instead.

Dude... If there's a cop and a doc and the cop claims he will be protected by the doc so it's much better to block the cop and try to remove the doc from the game.  Godfather wouldn't do the trick.

Probably the #1 strongest weapons against dull play is the Mod.  Lurkers need to be Prodded and, if inactive, replaced (if they 'exist', as proven by PMs to the host but not talking, that's still 'in game' and something the town has to deal with: Lurking IS a tactic after all).  If the game is slowing down, the host can threaten to push the Deadline.  Beginner 2 was saved in that way.

Mods have to make sure that they apply the same activity rules to everyone. Not just scum.

I disliked when Meph signed up kashyyk when he was V/LA (Vacation/Leave of absence) and we were not allowed to night kill him or lynch him... :S

And actions might be nice too even though the only action that we dont know about is the doc protect.
