DFG 21
« on: September 09, 2009, 10:11:38 am »

Hey there.
Since some people have been bugging me about it, I thought I'd notify you all that there's a new DFG. As always, you can grab it here:
http://mayday.w.staszic.waw.pl/df.php

I did some nasty tricks with the main tileset this time. Any feedback is welcome, though I can't guarantee that all suggestions will be employed.

Thank you for packing this up! It's my primary tool for getting people who might shy away from ASCII to try DF.

Why are all the Dwarfs now wearing boxing gloves?

You linked to the Homestar Runner website.

At least, that's what I got.  I'm not even sure what DFG is supposed to be, actually . . .

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Overall good.

First negative that came to mind is the ground (soil/rock/grass/stockpile/items) is too washed out with the bright background lacking contrast.

Also, more annoyingly, any open space one Z level above the ground looks the same as the ground now rather than being obviously "above" the level below.

Yeah, really disliking the bright backgrounds. I'll stick with DFG18 for now.

Just before it came out I had a similar idea:
(Image ahead!)
I changed the tileset, so that those dots for lower z-levels become more like a shading.
Those triangles are rocks by the way.
Of course, seeds and vermin now look stupid, but oh well.

Would it be possible to make the invisible stone black again, while making lower z-levels a bit darker than now, but not as dark as with vanilla DF's "."?
