Since it worked once, with very good results, the same tactic will be used again.

All avaiable forces are drawn out to destroy the unit currently sieging the city

If this manages to break the siege once more, then forth we go to gather some more supplies, if there are any left after 2 lootings and 1 gathering....oh well, if need be barbarian bread will do

depending on the outcome of the battle against the cavalry unit, if the man are too fatigued to continue, or if the losses exceed more than 30 men (wounded count as losses for this decision), the army will retreat back behind the walls before the incoming infantry has a chance to attack them.

however if the losses are lower than 30 men, and if the army is still in a fighting condition, then we shall also attempt to combat the incoming infantry unit, to prevent further looting and sieging.

((that is, if two battles in one round are okay rule-wise. Should the rules regard both of them as one battle, and do a single dice-roll for both, then the order is to retreat behind the walls after attacking the cavalry))

Since Kestrel is already the second in command, giving him the promised promotion for killing the enemy leader is kinda problematic. He is however rewarded with a large amount of money, and he is offered to marry one of Munisai's daughters, should he manage to bring him the head of yet another barbarian commander.

also, in tradition of the house of Madara, the skull of the enemy general is neatly cleaned, and heavily decorated with engravings and jewels, then given to Kestral as a gift, so he may display it as proof of his skills.

Lola describes her plan to defeat the barbarians, once and for all.
"The time for a change of tactics is now. Tomorrow night the men will surround the enemy camp and from all sides they will charge. Leave the Barbarian 'Warlord' to me. He will be a fine trophy for the house of Danyal.
Tell the men that for every five barbarians they kill they will be awarded
[amount of money], move out!"

Orders:
Cavalry will ambush the Barbarians at night
Each man bearing the head of Five Barbarians will be rewarded.

Even a child could of seen this ruse, Duan thought. Barbarian foresters hiding in the wood, no doubt all they could organize from the local population. They outnumbered him, but he had a plan. Under the cover of night, he had the city ship his some special equipment...

Orders:

Move 1 space north, and engage the barbarians. Preach to my soldiers we have the favor of the Gods (even if it's not strictly true...) If we win, continue to move North through the forest.

Tactics:

Have my people erect deep pits, lined with jagged pieces of wood and coated with dung and camouflaged with painted canvas. Do this under the cover of night.

After a days rest, send 10% of my troops ahead to trigger the enemy ambush, when they do so, lead them back to the traps we prepared and my main force. If the enemy doesn't want to follow, hit and run them from afar to make them angry. Safe zones in between the traps would be marked within a few feet of a bronze ring for our own cavalry, which the last rider in line would pick up with a gaff pole to deny the enemy the same advantage.

After the enemy blunders into them, attempt to encircle and destroy them from the rear. Let them perish in the pits, and if any get past, the 10% will stand ready to ride them down on the other side. Don't let anyone escape, if we can help it-no mercy! I will take part in the battle myself.

Barbarians to the east!
Come to besiege our fair city, no doubt.
"Send forth scouts to evaluate their strength. I want to how many soldiers they have, what kind of soldiers, what kind of general they have, if they are prepared for a siege, and how fast they are moving."
"Yes sir"
Tsoi turned away and looked over the city. A dozen archers walked past on the street below.
"Oi! March, you maggots!" he yelled at them. The archers stopped in their tracks and saluted, the leader shouting up an apology, and then they marched off in formation.
That would not have happened had Fierban been here, Tsoi thought. He had much to learn before he could truly lead an army. He hoped at least is that he would be good enough.

Scout for information on that barbarian army to the east of [Fierban's outpost] (I'll think up a name later)

They rode fast, but neatly, as ever. They knew that there could be barbarians waiting for them in the forest ahead, but they were not afraid. Scouts had been sent ahead, and they had survived combat here before. With vigilance and discipline ever barbarian ambush would be defeated, Fierban reminded them.

Fierban and co rides four squares east (vigilant for ambushes). If for some reason there is extra speed left, go north as far as possible.

Yet another victory had been scored against the vicious barbarians, and whats more, Ogedei thought gleefully, he had managed to capture one of the liutenants, whom he was supposed to kill, after a single combat.
Naturally, the fight had been quite onesided. The foulsmelling ape was forced to cover under his shield as Ogedei delivered blows from all sides with his trusty scimitar. Finally the barbarian, cut up and bleeding, had been pleading for mercy on his knees.
Overall, it had been a good week. And this week would hopefully be better still. He had issued an order for the men to start raiding the areas surrounding the outpost, find those celestial slaves and arm them for open resistance. That should force the remaining liutenant to fly out of the nest. He would, of course, take part in any battle.

The army moves to (-23, -16) for better cover and for positions to engage in the plan.

Both units start rounding up the celestial slaves mentioned in the earlier scouting report, and will arm them for resistance. That should force the remaining liutenant to come outside.

"A great victory, men! We shall rest up here, send out scouts, and then press forward towards the city of Yinmei to liberate it from these barbarians!"

------

Send scouts out to the north to look for barbarian war groups and to check the strength of the city.

Send the wounded back to the city to recover

Hold the pass for this turn.

Turn 9, Spring

Rules for movign through terrain of different types seem to be misunderstood, so movement rules are changed a bit for more clarity. Each army has a number of action points (calculated in the same way as speed was previously, though without taking terrain into account) which can be spent moving through terrain. Moving through plains costs 1 AP. Moving through other types of terrain with the right training costs 1 AP, without training it costs 2 AP. Mountains are still impassable without Mountaineer. Water is impassable without ships (2AP with ships but not Marine training, 1 AP otherwise). Roads use 2/3 AP, that is 2 AP to cross 3 tiles of road. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Not much to say, really. Jierui attacks the enemy using his siege weapons and ingenious strategems, and promises a bounty for each slain enemy soldier.

Woo turn woo
Also yes that clears up the confusion. Thank you.

A rabble armed with spears and axes; no match for organised archers. Good news indeed. Nevertheless it would probably be wise to stock up on supplies, and make sure the soldiers are always ready to fight. Perhaps a drill for the farmers outside the walls, so they can get into the city with ease?
Tsoi made a note to have it arranged. The next day the peasants were instructed to pack non-essential items and store them inside the walls. Then they were trained in leaving their farms in speed without panicking. Whilst the soldiers were not helping the peasants they practised archery, or did marching and mental exercises.
Tsoi only hoped it would be enough.

Archery unit and city prepares for battle.

They rode swiftly across the plain, through the hills, and into what could only be Xian Jierui's oupost. The general himself was besieging a city to the north, and the town had only minimal protection. As requested Fierban organised the few local soldiers and his own men to guard the city as they waited for his return. Fierban sent a message to the general informing him of his safe arrival, then settled down to wait, wandering about the city and tutting at the lack of discipline.
Fierban moves one square east and then five squares north, into Xian Jierui's outpost.

geez, didn't I say that my men would only retreat from the incoming reinforcements should their losses be higher than a certain amount ?

I don't see any losses, on neither side. Why would my men already retreat if no blood has been shed at all?

aaaaannyway

Kestrel, who is by far exceeding Munisai's expectations, is once more rewarded. This time, he is not only given the same amount of money and the decorated skull of his enemy, but in addition is given a marriage proposal to marry one of Munisai's daughters, not a bad party. The approval of Kestrels father is however still pending. ((as are the freaking supplies I asked from him, geez doesn't he care about his son starving in battle?))

Munisai has observed that Kestrel seems fairly unable to properly lead the men under his command. In an attempt to make him more liked an accepted by his unit, the unit that served under him while he killed the enemies commander is also rewarded in silver.

For now, the enemy is observed, to judge wether or not he is going to attack the walls. If so, splendid, battle commences against the fortifications.

If not, then in a last attempt to break the siege to gather supplies, all avaiable units shall attack once more. They shall however not leave the city through the main gate, but through a smaller side gate, in an attempt to catch the siege-force off-guard, where they are weaker.

If this works, supplies are gathered.

If this however does not work, then, after retreating back into the city, the horses of the cavalry unit shall be slain to supply the men with food. The former cavalry is handed bows, they are now servign as archers IF I have to slay their horses. They do not become archers if supplies could be gathered.

Please note that the horses are only slain IF we don't manage to get any supplies. The word "IF" plays a big role in my posts, so this time, no retreat without any blodshed

Duan wiped the blood from his axe and fumed "That wasn't supposed to happen! Why did I even bother with all that planning? How did they defeat my soldiers so easily? So many questions...he executed his incompetent watch commanders and went to his tent to plan a new attack...

His plan was fairly unoriginal...time to call upon the Gods...he secretly detested having to do so, but it was better than the alternative.

Actions:
Call on the aid of the war Gods to avenge the fallen and increase my mens morale, then launch a full on charge at the barbarians. I'll take part in the battle myself.

If defeated, retreat to the city if possible.

EDIT: Gracias!

Zei-Ran crumples up the letter and turns to his lieutenant.

"So, this Yun Wong is in need of real experience is he? Very well. Have him train up some Archers and begin plundering some of the Barbarian merchant ships to the southwest."

The lieutenant bows. "Yes my lord. And us?"

"We shall see about Yinmei. First, however, let us give them a chance to surrender. Send a messenger to them stating that if they surrender themselves to us they will be allowed to join Celestial Lord's empire. Meanwhile, keep the scouts out to make sure there are no forces outside the city that we need to deal with. Should these barbarians refuse out generous offer...we shall have to take the city by force"

----

Train archers
Yun Wong takes the archers out on the ships and heads southwest, plundering any barbarian merchant vessels he comes across.

Send a messenger to the city to the NE, demanding their surrender.
Send scouts out to make sure no armies are outside the city anywhere in the north.
If the city refuses to surrender, lay siege.

Ogedei was furious over this insult. During the midst of the fighting, the second liutenant had rode up to him, commencing a furious duel. And through sheer luck, he had "defeated" him. As Ogedei was preparing to land the decapitating blow to the liutenant, a close by passing horse had bumped him squarely on the back. This outrageous mishap broke his balance, and he fell over, giving the chance for the bastard to add yet another scar to his body. Fortunately for him, Ogedei had managed to roll away from the worst of the blow.

But tomorrow, he would ride up to the outpost with his escort and his prisoner. And he would formally hang him to the nearest tree. That should serve as a challenge for rematch. The bastard would curse the day he was born.

Ogedei challenges the liutenant to a rematch.

((OOC: Mephansteras, i dont know if youve noticed, but anykind of dealing with barbarians is going to end up with you condemned for execution.))
