It is obvious that I need more troops in order to take out these archers, thinks Zei-Ran to himself. I think some cavalry will make taking this pass a good bit easier.

----

Return to the city and Train Cavalry to replace my decimated Infantry unit.

Her task at hand, Apura trains cavalry, bound southward toward the place of her meeting with the allied general while her most loyal troops defend the city from unknown threats.

"Sir, we have received news from the scouts concerning the enemies movement towards our great city."

With a deep bow, the soldier handed Munisai the report.

A studied it for a while, until finaly a small smile emerged on his face. The way the enemy moved showed a clear weakness. They were not united. At least (and hopefully only) 4 groups, each and every one of them lead by a different commander. None of them were marching together, the disance between them even to great for the closest units to be a vanguard.
Each of them moved at their own seperate speed, all on the same trail, but all of them wanting to be first at the city. Maybe a conflict of interest? Several commanders all claiming the glory?

Whatever it was, their lack of units would be their downfall. He would crush the overly eager vanguard in his fist, long before the main infantry even gets close to the city. One by one, one after the other. First the too eager vanguard, then the middle, and if all goes well, the rear would already retreat, taking the warning.

Munisai moves, alongside with his unit of infantry through the northern forests to X-19;Y02, to ambush the barbarian unit that is going to pass by on -19;1. The attack will be attempted at night, to gain the maximum moment of suprise.

Kestral moves to Mardukane. In the case the ambush fails and the enemy manages to sprint ahead towards the city gates, he will be in command to defend it with his riders, despite their fatigue after the long forced march.

Apura strode into the leader's tent, alone. Her enemy and his top lieutenant... How pathetic. To slay this child would be an embarassment. She called in her guards and tended to the boy, his servant would be taken captive, and the both of them returned to Zakhonia while the hunt was settled. Perhaps she could gain something from this.

(OOC: I was not expecting that. Committing a crime worthy of the death penalty...for me?

Give me some time to think what Raven Hawk will do next.)

Fierban moves to Kayling

Into the city of Kayling prance the soldiers of Fierban. They are filled with pride and mad with power. Behind them comes a crowd of inhabitants; people come to hear the stories that they have brought, people whose family is under Fierban's command, and people wondering what the smell is.
They are greeted in the center of the city by the governor.
"General Fierban, if I am not mistaken" he says "What brings you back here so soon?"
"I am on a mission from the highest authority, governor. To deliver unto the Celestial Lord the contents of our saddlebags"
"From the smell. I expect it is a valuable cargo indeed. Did you not suffer banditry with such a valuable prize in tow?"
"Indeed we did. Twice I battled with barbarian forces. The first time in ambush, were Idrove them off with minimal losses. The second time I used cunning strategy and disciplined manoeuvring to utterly crush the barbarian forces, again with minimal losses. I am not one to brag, but I may note that it was a satisfyingly textbook victory.
But that is not relevant. I need to get my cargo to the capital as fast as possible, but I also do not wish to leave my outpost undefended for too long. Is it save enough on the roads between here and the capital to have it transported by regular merchants?"
"Hmmn. I shall investigate it for you. In the mean time, your men look weary. Let them rest in our barracks"
"Thank you"

Whilst they rest both Fierban and his men are pestered by requests to tell of their great victory over the barbarian armies. Many tell the whole truth, not thinking the tale necessary of exaggeration. But the gossiping mouth always adds sparkle to the word it spreads regardless of the fantasticality of the actual tale and thus soon the pesterers are wanting to know if the barbarians were 2 meters or 3 meters high and if there were a  five thousand or ten thousand. Fierban is annoyed by this. Lies and untruths are the product of an undisciplined nature. He therefore makes a small speech detailing the course of the entire battle and every detail he can remember to everyone who wants to hear it.

Fierban also sends a message to the Celestial Lord informing him of his and his cargo's save arrival in Kayling, and that if everything goes right the cargo will be in the capital within a few weeks

The rain beat down upon the camp, sizzling the feeble attempts of making campfires for demoralized men. The assault had been succesful... at first. Instead of finding a camp full of drunken men singing ribald songs, they had charged straight into a well prepared hedgehog of a camp. The initial charge had been stopped, and with momentum lost, the battle soon turned into a bloody toe-to-toe. Unfortunately, in there the barbarians had the advantage of spears against cavalry and they were forced to retreat.
On the bright side, Ogedei had ridden like hell to the center of the barbarian camp and decapitated the leader. As such, Ogedei mused, with these far more satisfying scouting reports, he was free to move back to Luyang and report back to capital.
He ordered the men to pack up.

Ogedei moves back to Luyang and reports the mission successful.
The cavalry unit is remanned at the city.

Ah, victory! Jierui rid home amidst his cheering men, bringing with him almost 40 prisoners. A great victory indeed for the Celestials! He messaged his master about his triumph, and then turned his attention to this particular general named Khon...

((Also, troops resupplied, obviously))

Lola was pleased, the constant marching in the desert and the training she has forced them to do has given her men specialist skills concerning survival in the desert. One particular one was speed. Urging her men forward she quick marched them with in distance of the Barbarians.
She ordered her men to split into three groups, to take the enemy in a pincer movement. 30 will advance from the North, 30 from the South and the Remaining 40, led by herself, will charge their center. It should be quick, and efficient.

Orders, Move West and engage the Barbarians.

Sorry about the delayed turn change, I caught a cold so I have to sleep a lot. On a side-note, this turn was pretty damaging for most players who had to fight battles. Dice weren't on their side. It shall be remembered as the Week of Starfall.

Zei-Ran gathers his newly trained Riders together

"Men! Our forces have shattered most of the barbarian troops to the north. All that is left in the pass is a group of cowardly archers. We shall ride forth and crush them beneath our hooves!"

The troop rides out between lines of cheering citizens

Ride back to the pass and attack any enemies that we see. Zei-Ran will, as always, take point and attempt to fight the enemy leader personally.

The cargo of fine incense is brought to the capital, where it is much appreciated by the Celestial Lord and his closest advisors. Fierban is given a new title for his efforts (General Who Hunts Barbarians), and a new quest.
The week is spent in Kayling at the Celestial Lord's request.

((pfft, nobility gives you easier missions, and suddenly I have to fight 4 armies at once. yeah, haha))

((on a different note, what do you mean with "ride down madara's cavalry". it was an infantry unit.))

((on another different note, advantage through units, advantage through ambush, advantage through superior commander, and still luck played such a big role. daaamn. In other words, no matter what the odds, every battle at any time could mean you lose.))

Madara quickly retreats behind the city walls, where his wounds are treated.

Madara disbands the current, low-morale infantry unit, and quickly arms a new infantry unit. He joins forces with Kestral and the cavalry, and both units engage the enemy cavalry who by now, should be standing before the doors of Mardukane. The battle will be fought from behind the fortifications.

Since Madara is wounded too much to actually take part in the battle, he will just give commands to them from a save location with a good overview, like a guard tower or something. He will be in charge of the infantry, that is behind the cities gates, ready to kill the enemy.

Kestral who will be in charge of the cavalry will sneak around the enemy while he hacks at the gates, and will then rush straight into their rear to crush them. If the gate has not fallen by then, it will be opened and the infantry will also join in on the battle, which will have him mostly encircled.
For the duration of the battle, Kestral will be allowed to take Madara's magic fan, he needs it down in the fray of the danger.

Also, he puts up a big reward for whomever manages to slay the enemy commander. The one who manages to kill him will be rewarded with 5 times the usual payment and a promotion.

scouts are send to determine the nature of the units that are yet approaching, not only including type and number, but also affiliation between different barbarian tribes.

Sorry, should have been "ride down Madara's infantry". I was just tired and ill, so I might have made a few mistakes in the descriptions up there.

I am afraid, there is no such thing as an automatic victory. Your odds were something like 190 vs 60. Unfortunately the dice decided otherwise. The roll was something like 240 on a d250, which is a victory for the barbarians.

And yes, Nobility is not to be overestimated nor understimated.
