Well, I located a bottomless pit on my map and started exploring it. One of my masons ran into a GSC web and got stuck - the GSC prompty ripped his head off. However, my Champions quickly took care of it once I located it, and now I'm trying to harvest it's webs. However, they span over the middle of the pit: how exactly do I collect them?

They should be collectable as long as they have an adjacent tile that is safe to work from.
