Job Suspended?
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:08:29 pm »

I'm having a problem with suspended jobs.  I've built a bunch of rock coffers for my dwarfs to admire in their rooms (Whee! interior decorating!).  I ordered them to be hauled and my slacking dwarfs began to hop to it.  They hauled them a bit
but then just left them.  I assumed they went off to drink and would get back to it but they haven't.

When I go to the job menu by pressing [j] I can see that several of my jobs are suspended including the job to haul the rock coffers.  I also cannot place those rock coffers again, they're just not available.

What caused this and how do I fix it?  Could it be related to the arrival of traders because I think that happened around the same time.

I also have a few other questions if nobody minds.

How do I get a awesome dining room.  I put in a artifact floor grate worth 30000.  Is this enough?  How do I tell?  It's labeled as just a dining room in the [r] menu.  I mined out an area to put the floor grate in but I made sure to expand the dining room.

Do mugs and skull totems not show up trading depot menu?  I can only move them from the all sub-menu.

Is there any reason why I got two possessed moods in a room instead of any of the useful ones?

Woohoo! fun questions!

RE: Suspended jobs.
These can be fixed by 'q'ing over the item locations in question(where you want them placed and all.) and hitting s, it may also be fixable from the j menu, but I've never used it.
However, if they were suspended, there's a reason, that reason should be in the announcements log, in big red letters. haha
I would just bet that you tried to set the coffers on some rocks that were marked for dumping or forbidden, or were set to be used.

RE: Dining rooms!
Alright, this'll be fun, and easy! just hit r, this will show you a listing of all the 'rooms' in your fortress, 'royal' is the best ranking for room quality, chances are your dining room hit that with just the artifact.

RE: Of Mugs and Skulls.
Mugs are a definite yes, you're forced to either look through the ALL sub menu, or to single them out by searching for them in the bring to depot menu(which I think you can do by just typing the word "mug")

RE: Possession oh no!
No, there's no specific reason, moods are completely random and can strike anyone at any time.

for 'j' menu, find the suspended job and hit 'b' to 'zoom to building', then you can hit 's' and unsuspend. i recommend loo'k'ing at the location of the coffer placement though - is there a hidden stone there that's blocking the placement or some such?

same for totems. hit 's' to search on the 'bring items to depot' menu, then type 'tot' or 'totem' and it'll show them fairly fast.

read wiki on 'mood' for some good info.

Yeah, if there's any rhyme or reason to what type of moods strike, it hasn't been grokked yet by anyone who's talking.  Who it strikes is semi-random, weighted by profession, and what skill is affected (if any) for a particular dwarf is actually within the control of the player to a large degree.

As zg says, Wiki.

re mugs/totems/etc:
I go to the "all" menu, and hit <d> to change from distance to value - unless you're decorating, your mugs and totems should all be in clumps of the same value.  "Distance" can be useful if you have workshops that are cluttered, or tight stockpiles.  Usually not overly hard to find what you're looking for in clumps.

dining room:
"Royal" is the highest - the game never uses the word "legendary" when looking at the <r>oom menu. Same same.

Remember that, if you are using bins wherever you are storing your mugs and totems (if you are storing them at all, rather than leaving them in the crafting workshop), you won't be able to find them in the trade search option using 'mug' or 'totem': they'll only show up as Finished Goods bins. When you go to select a particular bin, you can hit enter to see what is stored in the bin, if you want to make sure you're only moving your totems and mugs.
