How much are my old NES games worth?
« on: September 08, 2009, 07:42:11 pm »

I have (most notably) Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Doctor Mario, 1942 and Ultra Q-bert. All with sleeve and manual, the Zelda one even comes with the little poster explaining how to draw a good dungeon map.

So, what are these worth?

Not too much. I've tried this before and the thing is, there are so many cartridges out there and so few hardcore collectors it isn't really a sellers market. If you want to find someone willing to pay a lot you need to find a collector who doesn't already have them (unlikely), and the sleeve, manual and cartridge would have to be in perfect condition for them to be interested. Even then, it's unlikely you'd get more than $75 for any given game (although admittedly I haven't looked into this for a long time). More than likely you're looking at $10 for Zelda and Metroid and less for the rest of them. Probably much less.

Unopened games, on the other hand, should be worth a lot more, because no one keeps unopened games except collectors in the first place...

Keep em for 50 more years. You will be able to sell them for today's equivalent of ten thousand dollars!

If you wait about a month, I'll buy them all for $65!

Not much. I just gave away my old SEGA Genesis games to a poor cousin. They kindly accepted the gift, then just tossed it in some corner of the room.

Prices only go high when there's several collectors willing to fight over a rare item. NES games being what they are, it's more likely that the hardcore collectors have those, and refresh eBay daily to see if there's anything interesting they can get for $3.

Heh, I did an ebay check.. looks like most of them would go for around $5 (each). Well, dr mario did at $4.99. Anything above that doesn't get any bids. Zelda at $3.25.

I'd say you should go for Tylui's offer :P

Found a list of quite rare NES games here.

http://www.racketboy.com/retro/nintendo/nes/2008/03/the-rarest-and-most-valuable-nes-games.html

It's crazy what a game could be worth after a few decades.

Hah, yeah, the irony is that the games you didn't pay attention to are probably worth the most. I had a copy of Duck Tales, but I think a friend stole it :(

Ah, but Duck Tails 2 is the valuable one.

Zelda is only worth $3.25 on Ebay? That's brutal, that was my favourite game :( Even the used game retailers around here would give me $5 bucks for that one...

Hmm, now I just need an NES.  Looking at e-bay, I'd have to shell over about $55-75.  Still, considering the fact that I'd probably get more entertainment from that than a Wii....

You know what? I have Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars for my SNES, and now it's worth almost 200 dollars.

I'm keeping it though. At least until it's worth a thousand.  ;D
