Floaters
« on: September 08, 2009, 12:47:59 pm »

It's getting worse every day.
I have them for 3 years now. (I'm 15 now, so you can imagine how that sucks!)
I only recently found out what my sickness is. Seriously by now I hate white.
Some of you will eventually get them, since it is a very common disease among old people.
They annoy me, but it's kinda fun chasing them with my eyes  ::)
At first I was curious what the thing was. Then I became scared that I'm going blind.
I wonder how it'll be when I'm actually OLD.

So hah: Some of you will get em, and no doctor will help you! :P

have you checked with a doctor to make sure you're not suffering from one of the worse causes for the phenomena?

Actually most people have them. From birth.

No. Convincing my parents to actually let me go is a very hard thing to do.
But yeah, I checked around some more on the internet and the sympthoms point towards retinal detachment. That would suck, since it means I'm going blind :/

Dont panic. There are other causes for it. It could be that you are just tired. Have you noticed odd loses of visual field, as if a curtain had fallen over part of your eye? How about "seeing lights"? (fotopsies)
Also, do you suffer from deep miopy, or have family predisposition?

On another note: how old are you? if you are over 16, you can go on your own without asking permission.

as I said in another thread about something else: reading about maladies is fine, but  dont e-diagnose yourself. If you are concerned, ask a doctor about your worries

PD: even in a worst case scenario, there are surgical techniques to reattach the retina in partial detachments. But having a diagnosis, and doing it in time are crucial factors.

Do you get enough sleep?

Than symptoms can be brought about by exhaustion.

I have them, they usually are more noticeable to me when I... Erm... 'Whig out' as it were.

They don't bother me really, they also give me a good indication when I seriously need to calm down.

I've had them forever.  I used to try to focus on them, and I never thought to ask people what they were, or if others had them.  Eventually I found out anyway, though.

Same as Cthulhu, except I just found out what they are now. I assumed everyone had them...

I would say not to worry about them too much unless you also have other symptoms, or if they're seriously blocking your vision. I have them. I know others who do; it's not life-threatening in and of themselves.

SOmething similar, but more profound happens to me.

If i rise from a sitting position too quickly, i go  completely blind for a few moments (three or four second is when it's faded), i'm pretty sure it's due to Interrupted bloodflow, and as long as it dosent actually harm me, i don't really care about it. it's pretty trippy.
