Unusual death message

Urist McDeaddwarf has died after colliding with an obstacle.

What does it mean?

He fell/flew as a result of falling/being thrown by weapon. He hits object, he goes splat.

I've also read about a hunter running so fast he died with that message when he collided with a tree..

I get this all the time when I'm sending unwanted immigrants to their demise in the chasm via catapult, and hit the wall instead. tossing my goblin prisoners down a really deep pit. Yeah, I'll go with that.

I call BS on this one... you have to be airborne to die by collision. And you can't get airborne by moving normally.

It's possible though unlikely that the hunter in question was hit by a wildlife and collided with the tree, dying.
