nerfing orcs
« on: September 07, 2009, 09:54:57 pm »

I'm having some trouble finding the object data for Dwarves, Humans, and Elves to compare them to orcs.
Also, how important is DAMBLOCK in normal combat? How important is size?

They're in creature_standard.

Woo! Thanks :)

EDIT: What does the tag [liKES_FIGHTING] do? The wiki is bereft of an answer...

Size is VERY important in combat. Exact mechanics are not perfectly known, but larger = scarier.

Do keep in mind though, that no matter how large size is, or how great DAMBLOCK is, anything with vital organs can be killed with an arrow or bolt. Anything.

Yes.

I learned that the hard way, in adventurer mode.

Of course, Orcs could easily kill any of the base races in one-on-one combat.

I don't know what LIKES_FIGHTING does. If you're trying to make them less awesome, try taking away TRAPAVOID. If you want to make them MORE dangerous, make them constructs; take away all their vital organs so they're like bronze colossi.

This is a Dwarven corpse. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of pathetic and menaces with spikes of fail.

I took away their [trAPAVOID] and gave it to the goblins. ;D

It made more sense, because orcs are bloody HUEG.

No, it isn't.  Try again, please.
I use these somewhat often.
The LIKES FIGHTING one is under "creature tokens"

If you don't want to look, IIRC it's so that the creature receives a good thought for fighting instead of a bad one, which only really matters if you're playing as a different race in fortress mode.

Yes it is.  Try again, please.  (Also way to not read what you wrote)

Yes, it's under creature tokens.  With nothing explaining anything about what it means.

Why you linked to entity tokens is beyond me.  I didn't read it all but a Find brings up nothing with the word "fight" and "likes" only once, with likes_site.

Some people.   ::)

The exact mechanics of combat are known - Toady has stated them.

I can't find where, though.

(of course, it's all going to change with the next version.)

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that is a significant diff between the formula for damage and the exact mechanics of combat.

I restate that the full mechanics are not publicly known, but I'd be happy to be demonstrated wrong - I'd love to know the full process, in detail.
