Old Versions?
« on: September 07, 2009, 03:17:59 pm »

I was told that an older and more stable version of dwarf fortress would help combat the fact that my laptop is slow as shit running down a hill. What version was he referring too?

Well, there's the 2d versions, and there's the experimental 40d## versions, which aren't as old, but also speed up the game considerably.

Annd: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/df_23_130_23a.zip for the latest 2d version.

How many people still use 2d versions in contrast with the newer 3d ones?

And the wiki, as an editorial policy, does not support any older versions, so no help there if you plan to switch.

Though he could use the old wiki, which I believe is for 2d only.

I have no clue what he was referring to. The newer versions aren't slower, and if your graphics card+driver isn't just right, the experimental version 40d11 is faster. The other 40d##s may or may not be.

Savok - what who was referring to?

I was referring to the fact that anything in the current wiki that starts out "in previous versions" is aggressively purged.  With extreme prejudice, even. (As per Rule "T".)

Though he could use the old wiki, which I believe is for 2d only.

"old wiki"? Is there an unedited one previous to the current one (the one linked on main forum page)?
