when the new version comes out it should be a bit different, hopefully.

They aren't all that big, . . . their damage isn't spectacular

The hell are you talking about, they're the biggest creatures in the game and relative size has a pretty big effect on damage.

They're only about four times the size of a dwarf. That's nowhere near enough to oneshot an unarmored civilian.

Wow... four times as big? That's only what, 16 feet tall? Pathetic. Here I was imagining Dragons to be the size of a small frigate, and titans ranging upwards of 40 feet tall.

The size tag is a bit controvertial right now, this should be fixed in later releases. Right now titans are not even 3 times the size of a human. And they're size 20, meaning they're among the biggest creatures in DF. Humans are size 7, and dwarves/goblins are size 5 or 6, me thinks.

Well, that hydra was plenty big enough to annihilate my marksdwarf before I saw a single icon flash. And my system runs sloooooow...

i once had a dragon show up. being completely unprepared for it i recalled my dwarves and sealed ourselves in. then while we prepared to take on the dragon a vile force of darkness arrived. i saw the goblins charge at the dragon. i saw a cloud of smoke. when the smoke cleared the gobins were dead and so was the dragon.

Ayup. Pretty damn small. As it stands right now, the [SIZE] tag is woefully inadequate for visualization.

This is probably the opposite of what the thread is about, but this is also an anticlimactic megabeast.

Skeletal dragon.

My entire military was wrestlers at that point.

It won.

Legendary wrestlers suck!

The dragon won, sorry.

I forgot that I can refer to a military as "it".

I have this mental image of thirty dwarves all trying to choke a skeleton to death at the same time.

Cage trap.

Since I don't even really NEED pet megabeasts (awesome as they are) due to traps, I DID have the joy of finding out that a Dragon is capable of killing a Hydra...

My very first megabeast was some dragon with the ususal silly random name. My military in this point consisted of three marksdwarves and a couple of wrestlers. I did have my fort entrance littered with traps, but the beast avoided them and headed to my now raised drawbridge.

The dragon decides that my marksdwarves were not a threat at all and proceeds to slowly destroy the bridge. A grand battle of a dragon standing still and my marksdwarves nibbling at it with -ashen crossbow- and +cat bone bolt+, but finally one of my guys manages to puncture it's lung. Too bad the dragon does not die (and my bridge was destroyed so I can't get to it either) but starts to slowly drag itself away. When the beast reached the outside, it was killed.

By a slugman.

Poor bastard, it would have had a good life as a pet if it had gone to my cage trap instead.

Also, all the time the dragon was on the screen, I had an announcement "Urist McMoney, Treasurer cancels tame large animal: Animal inaccsessible" I wonder what have happened if I had allowed him there...

Ancient Vampire (DD mod). I send one novice wrestler with a war dog to see how deadly it is. OOPS oh look there is only a pile of ash left of the vampire.

First time I fought an Ancient Vampire was in adventure mode. I caught it hanging out in an orc fort. I attacked it and cut its arm off with a single blow. I was all like, "Hah! Weakling!"

Then...

Fire.

Suffice to say I died.
