Dwarven bones and skulls
« on: September 05, 2009, 06:15:15 pm »

Using Dig Deeper mod.

Last Winter, an orc siege broke in and pretty much wiped out my fortress (Hi, orc bowmen), save 3 lone smelter/forger. The survivors sat in the smelting room and eventually the orc siege left.

Deciding enough is enough, I sealed off the entrance and start building coffins and accounting for the dead.

The next spring, orcs came back - including a few of the named orcs from previous siege, all of the named orcs bearing as much dwarf/sheep/pig/dog leather/bone trinket as possible. However, I don't think any of the dwarven bones were missing... I want to make dwarven bone arrow [30] out of nobles as well! :O

I guess the most important question is, is there any ways to use the dwarven remains for bone craft?

No.

They're not recognized as usable - they have to be buried. However, possibly in the raw files, there's some tag you can modify - but not in vanilla, no.

If I understand the raws correctly, they can be. How ever the butchable_nonstandard, prevents it from most races from using it. Races with the ethic eat sentence should be able to use the bones.

I dont think the game allows for purposeful cannibalism. As in you can't mark your own dorf to be butchered.

They can be eaten in extreme circumstances in the game, and their bones are used for the fell mood.

The butchable_nonstandard does nothing at all in the current version. butchering permissions are handled by civilization ethics.

Hmm. So, I'd have to alter dwarven ethics as well as the goblin entry in order to make them butcherable for bones and skulls but no food.
Although I'm tempted to get fat from them for goblin tallow soap roads.

A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Actually I have had no success in enabling sieging enemies for butchery either. Even setting everything to acceptable in the ethics doesn't seem to allow me to butcher goblins/elves/etc killed on my map.
