get them to {d}ump the demon rat cage in a room with a kennels and an animal trainer.

Lock the room to keep out hungry dwarves.

Unforbid the demon rat, task the kennels to tame it.

The animal trainer will immediately do this, as he cant leave the room to do anything else

....
