Guessing? I'll have you know I haven't guessed anything rule wise.

All pistols are 12".  You get one shot and can still charge; if you stand still, you can fire two shots, but nobody ever does that because it's a waste of time.  That's everything that pistols do.

Really?  Huh.  Well, that's how it was in the 4th Edition book, but I guess even GW forgot that little rule.

They probably realised it was a complete waste of time.

Well if they'd kept it, I'd have had two more shots just now.

Okay, that was seriously awesome. First game ever, pretty standard set up and all. Small, very small.

Me:

Chapter master w/bolt pistol and power fist.

Tactical squad w/ bolters. 4 guys plus sergeant with bolt pistol and chain sword.

Metal Militia:

Warboss w/slugga and shoota
10 Boys w/slugga and shoota

Fought to a standstill in annihilation, leaving me with one sergeant and him with his Warboss and a Boy.

That was so much fun. Thanks again MM for teaching me the basics! You rock.

Just so you know, he spotted you nearly twice his point value.  Like 120 vs 200.

Still, that's a nicely thematic setup, especially for learning.  Excellent, and welcome to the club.

Ah, that's okay.

The fact that we beat each other nearly to dust despite the fact he had nearly double my points tells me something about marines though...

Although, he would have won earlier, I just pulled a massive fluke and my Chapter Master saved 4 wounds.

What it says is something about both.  Marines are okay but can be done in by one bad roll since they're so expensive.  Orks are supposed to die easier, but especially in small games you can take so many of them you just swamp the other side.  And for 60 points, the Warboss is a goddamned monster compared to a Marine Captain.

Oh Jesus yes. the 5 attacks shook me somewhat when they first got into contact.

EDIT: Also I made the worst possible choice just before they came into assault range. I RAN. I ran backwards, negating my rapid fire and in the end they could still come into contact with me.

Sigh.
