30 seconds to go... 47! A minute!

Grr.

Anyway, I'm going to try the Imperial Guard, as I was thinking about starting them IRL and have a codex handy.

If Jakkarra's Orkin' it up I might go Spess Mehrens at least for the first few battles, to see how I like it before I go about obtaining other codices.

Once I do though, first thing I'll probably try is Chaos Marines, because SIIINDRIIII

What makes me angry is you know whoever wrote that stuff thought he was doing a really good job.  If Aragorn gave a speech like Boreale's at the Black Gate, Sauron would've won.  Also, the whole "I have a secret and incredibly complex tactic from the Codex Astartes up my sleeve.  It's called Operation Fire Drop Pods at the Enemy Until they Die" pissed me off more than anything else.  That's such a simplistic and obvious tactic I wonder why they even bothered to put it in the book.  I bet if I talked to an eight year old and gave him the situation, he would know to do that too.  Ridiculous.

If we die this day, we die as heroes!  But we shall not die!

Man, this program is kicking my ass.  I have no idea how to move things around on the map (namely the deployment templates), and the only way I can find to get models from the list to the board is by painstakingly juggling windows around, dragging one from the other.  Why even have a Player Deployment Window if it doesn't do this crap for me?

I'm not sure how to move the deployment templates, or even why they look the way they do.  Why is one smaller than the other?  Why is there a dark part in the top deployment zone?  Why can't I place terrain outside of the deployment zone?  Why can I suddenly place terrain outside the deployment zone?  How will I determine Line of Sight for cover and the like in a 2d map?

Okay, I think I've figured some of this out.

I'm not sure how to move the deployment templates, or even why they look the way they do.

You have to hold down Shift when you click to select the deployment square.

The small one is for smaller deployments, or for marking out corners of the board, while the large one is for large sides.  The dark part is a "center circle", so if you rotate the box properly you'll get a circle in the middle.  You can also delete or clone the deployment boxes to get the right arrangement.

I have no idea.

If the manual is to be believed, the program can't actually handle stuff like that (despite the LOS button) or at least the 40K module doesn't implement it.  You just have be in prior agreement about how tall buildings are and what parts of the map are hills.

Oh, god. You have to put down units individually.

Even with cloning, it's going to take ages for me and Jakkarra.

You can grab groups of them to move more around, after you make each one individually.

Yeah, I pity the fool who wants Tyranids, or Guard, or a lot of grots.  I think I'll use Grey Knights myself.

You would have to place them individually in the real game too.

Honestly, moving figures around on a table doesn't strike me as tedious as the thousands of mouseclicks this program will require.  Muscle memory or something, I don't know.

I'm still on board, but everyone just bear in mind how long this will take to play.

I call whoever isn't Aqizzar.  I've got the rules down, I'm just reading the game organization part now.
