Has anyone else read the Index astartes?

It has quite a few interesting "facts" pertaining to some of the Grimdarkiness, like how a few of the chapters came into being.

I had a pile of white dwarfs that had some other information, but i'm not sure where they went :<

So lessee - one bunch of fluff says that the Outsider C'tan went batshit after the Deceiver C'tan tricked him into eating other C'tan.

The other bunch of fluff says the Eldar Laughing God tricked the Nightbringer C'tan into eating other C'tan, but he didn't go insane.

...Knowing WH40K, both of these are correct  ;D

Maybe, just maybe that could work: First the Deceiver C'tan tricked the Outsider into eating all the other C'tan, and while he was in the throes of insanity the Eldar Laughing God convinced the Nightbringer to eat the Deceiver and the Outsider.

There's heavy evidence that indicates that the Eldar Laughing God and the Deciever are one and the same. The Deciever is alot like Tzeentch, cept less self-defeating.

What we know for certain is that someone pointed out how tasty C'tan souls were to the Outsider, he ate some and went nuts (from the power or from the remorse or something it's not clear), the other C'tan decided he was too dangerous and locked him up (we suspect he's locked up in a huge-ass dyson sphere that's mentioned a few times). Later the Nightbringer got really hungry and also ate some C'tan (either from being tricked or because he's just a dick like that) but due to the aforementioned dickery he didn't go insane, or at least any more insane than he already was, and nobody had the balls to stand up to him anyway.

According to the Lexicanum, at the very least, both the Laughing God and the Deceiver have pretended to be each other several times.

What I don't get is why there isn't an all out God of Sorrow.

We've got a God of Blood, a God of Change, a God of Sickness, a God of Passion/Hedonism, at least two Trickster Gods, a God of Death and a God of Madness, as well as a Machine God. Massive opening there. I mean, surely sorrow has to be one of the biggest emotions out there for Chaos? Unless it comes under that duality thing of one of the Chaos Gods.

wouldnt fit into the grimdark.  its followers wouldnt make war, but would instead just sit around in eyeshadow and fishnet sleeves listening to sad music.

the chaos gods wouldnt tolerate that goth shit because, as we all know, in the grim darkness of the far future there is only Bolt Thrower.

No-one knows if they're pretending to be each other, if they're both aspects of the same being or if they are in fact both the same being, and if so no-one knows which one is the 'real' being.

Basically they like fucking with people, and they're really good at it.
