What never happens? a game or winning a paintint contest?

Homework:
-build a 500point army.
 Use a theme: assault/defence/heavies
this way you can deploy your 500-1000 point armies as dedicated modules.
-Paint this army, ignore the rest.
Do you have a scheme for your army? if not discuss your ideas here.

I think meant he tries to paint, but...

Lack of inspiration, or that feeling of: How many models!?!

Given some fine motorskills and patience anyone can learn to paint models.
but I can relate to the second feeling having painted a skaven army.

Yeah, your Ork army needs more Orkz.

Also, with Tyranids my friend swears by his 'dogpile the enemy commander' tactic. He fields a heavy melee 'nid army (as 'nid ranged options are pants) and basically jumps either the most dangerous thing on the board, or the place where he can do the most damage. Fast units like Gaunts and Stealers dogpile onto the front lines and keep everything pinned down long enough for the heavy hitters to get up and beat everyone into a pulp.

It seems to work well for him, the only races i've seen him consistently have trouble against are a very specific Dark Eldar build and Tau armies that can get their Kroot into a bottleneck.

I know, I know. Buying the Orks from AOBR from my frined, than another battleforce.

I can then field an entire group of Deffkoptas, which are one of my favorite units.

I trust you are converting all of your models?

That's a bit much an entire army, I tended to just customise veteran sergeants and the like. And any marine that does something particularly awesome.

I generally tried to convert EVERYONE.

Orkz are the easiest, when i eventually get around to getting another army, there will be a LOT of cyborkz.

Orcs are easy to convert; you just dribble Green Goo all over them.

What's so bad about leaving them gray? I'm sure there can be some flavor reason why they decided to paint their armor all gray.
