Well, except for the companies which get own separate codex, like the Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Space Wolf Angels.  Other than that, yes under the 5th Edition all Space Marine companies function the same.

True, I'm just saying if you're going into the hobby cold, and buying an army and stuff, it would be better to start with something you know the rules actually allow, in case other people won't let you use house rules.

Then again, whats more fun that having an Ultramarine with a bolter carve through 50 'gaunts thanks to his special rules? (bolters and Xenoshunters)

Eh, I'm going to start out small, y'know? No special rules or whatever, first I need a grasp on the basics.

Warhammer 40K is an expensive ass game.

Also, thank god I THINK I misheard you Jack, but did you say you wanted to be a SMURF player?

I shouldn't post here. What am I doing. I simply must not. My will to pronounce the Black Templars as the only Chapter besides the Imperial Fists and the Salamanders worth playing is to overwhelming.

TEN THOUSAND YEAR CRUSADE. SIX THOUSAND MARINES. CLOSE...QUARTERS...C-C-COMBAAAT.

Well, Black Templar was my first choice, actually, but I figured you had a embargo on that or something and besides, Crimson Fists look awesome. Crimson Fists is what I'm going with. Probably. I still need a rulebook for christ sake.

When WH40k players say expensive, how much then are they meaning? Say to field a standard competitive army, how much money are you looking to drop, on the average?

My guess from looking? Small sized army, $150.

Let me put it this way: If a WH40k player calls it expensive, you can't afford it.

If they call it a bargain, you still can't afford it.

However, there is hope if they say it is chump change. If you sell your home and all inside of it, use your puppy's fur coat to sell to a child, sell 20 gallons of blood, a kidney, your legs, and your treasured golden watch, you can afford it. Maybe you can even get that set of combs for your wife.

But what use are the combs if she's already sold her hair?
