What are these acronyms Americans keep flaunting around?!

In all essence it's just a fancy test to see if colleges would want you.

Tests.  We failed hard on education, so we had to make up for it by making a stupid amount of tests with different acronyms.  The SAT is the Standardized Aptitude Test, which essentially tests to see if you actually know any of the stuff you're supposed to.  But, really, I think it's more common to just pick up a book entitled "How to beat the SAT" rather than actually retain information.

PSAT is the Preliminary Standardized Aptitude Test, which apparently tests to see if you know any of the stuff you need to know in order to know any of the stuff you're supposed to.

Not that I would know anything, mind you...  I'm just talking out of my arse.

Actually, according to Wikipedia (so you know it's true[citation needed]), the name was changed to Scholastic Assessment Test in 1990, and then later to SAT I: Reasoning Test.  Meaning "test" is in there twice, which the College Entrance Examination Board (which is basically just a private company the Department of Education loves) recognized all too late, and now asserts that the "SAT" part doesn't actually stand for anything.

What a wonderful commentary on the American education system.

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.

Back on topic:

Suicide in essence, is basically just ending your own life.
What drives people to kill themselves?

There is a whole comprehensive list, but here is the main two:

  • Depression
  • Desperation

Depression has been said many times before. When you don't think your life is worth living. I have been at the stage many times where I just hold my surgical tools in my hand and slowly cut my flesh off. It is knowing that there is more pain to be had, more suffering to be felt that makes you want to do it. In a sick perverse way, it makes you happy: knowing that you can hurt yourself, and end it all. I have felt the compulsion once to knock on death's door, but it is not the pain that scares me. It is the uncertainty of nothing. I seek knowledge, and when I venture into an area unknown, my stride falters.

Desperation. Why do government espionage agencies give spies and agents cyanide pills? So they can end their own lives. Why? So their secrets may never be taken from their heads. There is, however, another reason. Because the spies will be tortured within the brink of insanity and until the eventual death. To escape the pain, the pill is their only hope. It's that kind of: If I can't have him/her/it then no one can! sentiment you see on T.V and the Movies.

I...don't actually see the connection between that trope and cyanide pills, to be honest with you.

YES!  If everyone was cooperative then we could have a much better world.  Wars and violence helps NO ONE.

No! The world will always be pseudo-hell. That is the reason the world is made.

If you want your peace, go to heaven. Let me spill blood first...

@Thread: I don't care about suicide. I believe in the Creator, who gave me my f*ing life. It's His right no take it back, not mine.

Suicidal thoughts are perfectly normal, you never act on them but everyone has them sooner or later. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything about it, talk to someone or something, and if you can't find anyone there is a suicide hotline and failing that, I think this thread can work well enough for that.
