What drives people to kill themselves?

Depression has been said many times before. When you don't think your life is worth living. I have been at the stage many times where I just hold my surgical tools in my hand and slowly cut my flesh off. It is
knowing that there is more pain to be had, more suffering to be felt that makes you want to do it. In a sick perverse way, it makes you happy: knowing that you can hurt yourself, and end it all. I have felt the compulsion once to knock on death's door, but it is not the pain that scares me. It is the uncertainty of nothing. I seek knowledge, and when I venture into an area unknown, my stride falters.
Desperation. Why do government espionage agencies give spies and agents cyanide pills? So they can end their own lives. Why? So their secrets may never be taken from their heads. There is, however, another reason. Because the spies will be tortured within the brink of insanity and until the eventual death. To escape the pain, the pill is their only hope. It's that kind of:
