Vista hid it, hold windows key and R.

You can also simply type the commands in the 'search' bar at the bottom of the start menu.

Gigahertz is a measure of your processor's speed. Basically the voltage in the processor is constantly flipping from low to high to low again, many times per second. How many times? One hertz is one complete cycle. One megahertz is one thousand. A gigahertz is one billion cycles per second.

Not to be picky, just clearing up, a megahertz is one million, a kilohertz would be one thousand.

The thing that confuses me about dorfs is this. Dorf 1 dies in an avalance or somesuch. Dorf 2 is friends with dorf 3 and dorf 1. Dorf 2 berserks because of his friends death and kills dorf 3. also a friend. W. T. F.
Clearly you've never been drunk.

He basically said that.
Besides
kilo = 10^3
mega = 10^6
giga = 10^9

I personally can't stand playing with a large population.  I tend to keep my population cap around 30 or 40 and limit children to around 5.  With this set up the only time I notice lag is when large caravans show up.  So for me it's win-win.  I don't have to deal with the hassle of too many dwarves and I don't get any lag.

I had a similar set up running on my netbook.  I just lowered the deploy area to 4x4 to squeeze out a little more FPS.  With a few tweaks and some acceptable sacrifices I think you can get DF to run good on just about anything.

Use as few locked doors as possible, it plays hell with the pathing.

I think regular locked doors are okay, but pet-locked doors should definitely be avoided.  Those will lag the game to hell and back.
