I read in wikipedia about a MMORPG game that was for pay at first, but later on they moved onto advertising to fund it, or it went public, or somesuch.
At least graphics wise it looked fairly decent, but cant recall the name...

There's a whole bunch of free MMOs out there, but they're virtually indistinguishable from each other (or the subscription ones, for that matter), so it doesn't really matter which one you pick.

Then again, I consider Infinity to be overly ambitious, something that might easily spell it's downfall.

Don't you have to purchase Blades of Exile? I've only tried Blades of Avernum.

In the end, I feel that having one gigantic adventure is much better than playing a few smaller ones... Like playing Exile 2 and 3.

Edit: It looks like they're letting it go for free! Yay Spiderweb!
So disregard my previous statement, I suck blocks.

Anarchy Online has free basic subscriptions, though you're subjected to the most godawful shit ads whenever you're in a city. Which isn't often, but they're still terrible. It's decent, though it seems a lot of people don't like it. The graphics are also terribly dated.

Mud and Blood2, on urbanprophet.com, it's a free flash game if you like WW2 small squad rts games.

BoE was released by Spiderweb Software as open source. Their newer games are still to be bought.

Are there any fairly small ones that are good for lots of people? Me and my friends really enjoyed Gang garrison and Battleships Forever
