That's intended. I actually had to code that in specially. Just as with guns, your melee counterattack is to just smack them with whatever is in your hand. You don't get charged with assault for counterattacks.

Business is definitely a generic that many students take though... and that has a little bit of law included...  It really depends on what kind of student it is.

I agree that the amount of Law seems high... but then so does the Science. What about something like:

+2 Teaching
+2 Writing
+1 Business
+1 Law

(Extra focus on Teaching to help spread the knowledge around; less Science because, well, it's not horribly useful in activism and social work. It could probably even drop to +1, given that gen ed science is rarely all that deep or even good, but I was trying to keep the numbers the same.)

-Replaced the "Massive Conservative Response" text with more discriptive, enemy-specific text. Replaced the "imminent" warning with "Evacuating Area" to explain the lack of encounters after the response arrives.
-Made encounters stop spawning when massive conservative response occurs. Yes, you can clean out the building at that point. You just have to get past the siege units by the front door on your way out.
-Made SWAT teams be the default massive conservative response to most sites, instead of gang units or street cops. Death squads will still respond in place of SWAT teams, if available.
-Fixed bug where raiding SWAT teams would mysteriously vanish when you walked into their tile, instead of attacking you.
-Fixed profile display bug for androgenous characters wanted for crimes who were born in months with long names.
-Fixed display bug with abortion news stories.
-Fixed a minor bug with police attempting to arrest people spraying graffiti.
-Fixed freeze bug with hitting corpses for whom all of their body parts have been blown apart.

-Gave extra starting skills for college student founders and changed their starting cash:

+2 Computers
+2 Science
+2 Teaching
+2 Writing
+1 Business
+1 Law
+$500 (one month rent, down from $650)

Also note that the Professional Thief's downtown apartment is $300/month cheaper than the downtown apartments normally are. The College Student's university apartment is $150/month cheaper than standard university apartments. The tenement for the political activist is standard price. Additionally, the first month for all of these is free.

Hmm... Not sure if anyone else has noticed or if it's more of a limitation than an issue, but I've found it a bit annoying that, despite my attempts, I have often been unable to read the whole news story when something comes up with a major headline. While it has mostly just been a minor annoyance, when I began kidnapping people it became a larger nuisance as I no longer have any way of telling where they are looking for the kidnap victim.

If I had the time before classes started, I would consider taking the time to add the ability to see a second page of major news headlines about the LCS or CCS (not other major news stories, as there isn't any more than what you see to those). However, my classes start tomorrow and the newspaper code is a bit of a headache to deal with in general, so it's probably unlikely that I'll get the interest to do it again.

In this particular case, the statement of where they're looking for the kidnap victim only reflects the location that the victim would have gone if you had succeeded in making a sleeper out of them. Once the news story comes up, that information has no further bearing on the game. You don't need to worry about avoiding that location or anything.

Just had a crash after killing police trying to stop me from stealing a car. Debug message uncaptured as I slammed my hand on my keyboard in a blind rage and cleared it.

There's still no way to teach Dodge. Is that intentional? For balance reasons or something?

Also, the game sometimes crashes when you set sleepers to steal equipment. Something about trying to give you items that don't exist. It was either a Police Gang Unit in the Police Station or an Agent in Intelligence HQ causing it.

Minor UI issue: when your last active squad disappears, the squad roster is replaced with a screen listing the option to review liberals or hit Z to form a new squad. Hitting Z has the same effect as hitting tab rather than going to the form squad screen.
