Red faction and crumbable buildings
« on: September 04, 2009, 02:44:50 pm »

After beating Red Faction I feel like playing more games that have many peices to them and you destroy these peices.....Games like battleships forever are also good.

Any other games that use the engine for the buildings?

Mechwarrior. Any Mechwarrior.

Anyway, sometimes I feel in games that center around destruction have all of the buildings just crumble like tissue paper and might as well be particle effects. It's very prevalent in Mercs 2 at least.

As in using Geo-Mod? Or simply engines allowing you to destroy stuff piece by piece similarly to Geo-Mod?

Silent Storm had a destruction system that allowed you to destroy buildings piece by piece and it looked pretty impressive, even though it didn't generate the appropriate rubble.

The Soldiers series (Heroes of WW2, Faces of War and Men of War) feature a highly detailed destruction system for buildings as well as for vehicles.

Company of Heroes has buildings divided into cubic segments, which individually take damage besides the overall building health.

Crysis allowed you to destroy the shoddy junk-shacks with as little as punches, which made individual plates fall off (although this only worked with physics set at least to Medium, making the Low setting a sort of cheat against helicopter missles :D).

The X-com series and Jagged Alliance 2 featured tile-based building damage.

In a way Space Station 13 is nearly completely destructable, but it's also a 2D tile based game, so it's not nearly as impressive...

Phun? Not quite a game...

Thought of a better way to say it, A game where you have to wear things down before they collapse into a huge mess.

Can be any engine that has collapsable abilities.

(Bad memory: I stayed up all night once trying to finish all the rampage levels and just as i as on the last one.....It bugged and froze  :'(

Hear hear. Although I hope that Volition don't decide to shaft their PC customers like they did with the Saints Row 2 DLC - it's not that I particularly wanted to buy more missions & stuff, I just get uncomfortable knowing that the PC game is incomplete while the console kids get it all...

New Red Faction is looking rather good, though.
