  I was playing a game as a human adventurer armed with an iron pike. First quest, go and kill an Elf Druid. Sounded good to me.

I instantly set off in the direction of the target town, thinking that I should have no real problem.... and for a while it was looking true. I got pounced on by about 6 children, all of whom were easy to deal with. The elf swordsman and spearman were easily dealt with as well (except for a broken hip ,which didn't seem to be too problematic)

And then a Herbalist...

Well, the combat log says it all:

I modded my necks to have the [JOINT] tag so that wrestlers can put opponents in a head lock and then snap your neck.

That would have been a lot more merciful that being strangled to death.

I followed your example and made necks snappable. Apparently, breaking someone's neck does not kill him directly. Instead, they suffocate, probably because their lungs no longer work.

Not much less agonizing than being strangled really.

It is less embarassing though. At least if your neck's broken you have an excuse for not fighting back.

I might test that with my bodies in LL

In legendary lands the bodies are different, with the head connected to the body by means of the neck. The throat is attached to the neck, instead of the head (which was always odd, imo), and includes a spinal column.

I wonder what making the neck a joint there will do?

It should, but it might be a bit more finicky. The thing is that in vanilla DF all the critters use the same 'neck' part, (except Hydras, I think) so adding [JOINT] there made all necks breakable. If all your LL critters use the same [NECK] as well, it might well do exactly the same thing.

You can also give them the [EMBED] tag to tear them off. Brainless creatures don't die immediately, but fall unconscious and suffocate quickly.

It's unfortunate that the embed tag is a bit iffy with attached objects.

It can't be an elf. Obviously some berserk dwarf ripped off an elf's skin and is wearing it like clothing.
