Well, seeing that nobody has any stories to share I guess I'll jump start this thread with one of my school work essays. I thought it was particularity dwarven so I'm showing it off guy.
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was not the brightest moment in US History. On March 28, 1911 143 people were killed by horrible and shoddy working conditions. Blanek and Harris the factory owners should have been charged with SOMETHING, but sadly no. They were free to go on their ways after murdering 143 people. Why you might ask?! Simple, they said the workers has the right to not work there, but they did. How screwed up is that?!
First of all, the building wasn't built up to snuff. It was a 9 story building with crowded passage ways and few exits. They designed it so they could jam as many bodies as they could in there to kill. People literally had to climb over each other during a normal day. No wonder so many people jumped, so there could possibly be saved instead of getting trampled and smoke lunged.
Second, the damn front door was locked during the fire. I'm pretty sure THAT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE UNLOCKED. One of the reasons Blanek and Harris got away with it is that they "didn't know" the front doors were locked. I bet the back and side doors were too! Why they locked? I don't know, but I bet it was planned from the beginning.
Thirdly, the only reason these two got off the hook is because they're rich, white folk. They hired one of the best defense attorneys in the world (seriously, how?) and were able to put enough doubt in the juries mind that the two slime balls got a not guilty verdict. In think this "doubt" is the fact that the survivors of the fire didn't have matching testimonies. WELL OF COURSE. Do you believe a sweat shop worker in a smoke filled madhouse will remember anything?! CRAZY.
Well, just to say, the two guys eventually had to pay for their murders after 3 YEARS. You know what the fine was? $75 per person. This was back in the 1910's, but I mean COME ON. These guys make this much money in a week! The court only did it so the widows would be a little be happier. AFTER THREE YEARS.
