Human towns can be cool too.
« on: September 03, 2009, 05:47:19 am »

Arrived in a human town on top of their obsidian temple. It looks like the perfect entrance to dwarf fort. We have converted this temple to the worship of Armok. I will attempt to fortify this temple before the trolls come. They're slightly a slightly upgraded version of orcs. There is also a magma pipe for gladiatorial obsidian swords and general fun a bit to the east of this town.

There are actually quite a lot of humans here including an elite marksman and an elite axeman not to mention around 5 rangers and a bunch of marksmen. Also lots of kids and priests including a high priest. No mayor but there are some administrators and clerks. I think they might last quite a while with the high military presence here but they will probably fall quickly once the trolls start showing in numbers.

And all of the wealth in the human town counts as your Fortress wealth, so those Trolls'll show up soon.

Better start looting the houses for weapons and armor.

I see a lot of companion cubes, are you trying to create the DF version of Aperture Science (including GLaDoS)?

All of the humans make a handy screen though.

I settled on one of the fabled gobbo Temples that has a magma pit at the bottom of it, and made that into a temple to armok. I built a drawbridge system that would dump the heathen invaders into the magma as offerings to Armok whenever they chose to (attack my fort, path through the temple) sully the temple with their mere existence.

Well first siege came and went and things didn't go too well (For the humans at least). They mopped up the humies at the edge of town pretty fast and moved into the Keep and they mowed through 2 floors full of humans before getting stopped at the roof thanks to a valiant defense mounted by the High Priest (now deceased).  Most of the humans in this town have very high stats (even the fishery workers and farmers) so I was surprised that they died so fast

Aww poor hummies. The time I settled in a human town I built and caved in little structures and used the dust to catch a majority of the priesthood in cage traps. I then build special quarters in the temple and put them into them where they would be safe and always on hand for worship.

The end.

This doesn't even account for the other 3 squads running about mopping up all the villagers.

No floodgate doors? Where's the military? and are those orcs?

Those are trolls. Trolls eat floodgates.

Also, I'm guessing that the stray patches of web mean the trolls came with giant spiders. Giant Spiders eat everything.

I had 2 champions legendary wrestler/weaponsdwarves 8 speardwarves and 4 marksdwarves. There were tons of humans with very good stats they repelled the first 11 or so trolls with ease. This was like  easily 50 trolls including an axelord (whom I've killed) and 2 hammerlords.

That's why you turtle first when playing with enemies tougher than gobbos...  why build a wall 20 squares from your entrance that doesn't actually protect anything?  Madness.
