We are all Urist here
« on: September 03, 2009, 01:01:57 am »

Everyone knows what the best dwarf name is, right? Far and away, "Urist."  Now, I propose a challenge. Start a fortress anywhere, preferably evil, and repeat until one of the starting dwarfs is named Urist. Now, kill off all the rest. When migrants arrive, kill off all non-Urists, and so on, until you have a bustling fortress of Urists. Babies might be difficult, but find a way. Has anyone posted an idea like this before?

bonus: place the bodies of non-urists into coffins spelling out "URIST IS AWESOME!"
Elf way: mod the language files so the only name is Urist. Pansy.

Ideally, they should also all worship a dwarven god named Urist

In the latest DF Masters Competition, I purposfully genned a world where the reigning Dwarf King was named Urist. :P

Seriously though, when did the Urist thing start? "Dagger" is a rather undwarfy-sounding name.

There was a hermit game where the main character's name was Urist.

Apparently that's when the usage spread.

Somebody referenced a short story about a phycotic dwarf named Urist when an Escaped Lunatic asked what the big deal was

I for one am NOT a Urist, in fact the individual's name or even the individual is matters not, only communtity is and McLennin important, all die for the Mother Fortress

That sentence is painful as-is, and it only gets worse when I try to work out what you would've said in better English :D

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Like Vester said, it was a hermit challenge back in 2D. The entire epic story can be read <a href="http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=15572.0>here[/url]. It includes many awesome things like Skeletal Elephants, elaborate deathtraps, pretended insanity, kittens, magma, traders, gold, and Fun.

It's one of those things that every good DF player needs to read, kind of like Boatmurdered.

And don't dis Urist. She will shank you. She will.

I'm still bitter about that ending. She releases demons mining gold, if I remember right. and they both die. The end. Not exactly the best.

Well, she does strike the Adamantine on the other side of the gold vein, then the HFS.

Then a SOF kills the cat...

It was obviously the planned end (and a good one too) except it came early with the intent for a sequel in the new version, which we never saw.
