Well, I hit the HFS on my search for gems to encrust my coffins with. Somewhat ironic, no? This was the result:

This dropped me from 75 Dwarves to 27. Most of my legendaries died, including my two legendary miners/engravers. The only legendary left is my legendary clerk... I could try and rebuild, but ti would be very difficult without any very skilled dwarves... thankfully I still have a huge stockpile of food/drink, since my farmer and brewer are dead, while the cook... just look at the picture.

I do have backup saves of this, so I might continue it at a later date, steering clear of the HFS. For this one, I might abandon and come back as an adventurer - all the demons are dead, so I might as well loot the place... Too bad I have no adamantine weapons(metalsmiths died in the attack). By the way, for future forts is there any way to make dwarves decorate a particular item with gems/studs, instead of whatever they feel like? I don't want my -Shale Mechanism- encrusted with Black Diamonds, I want my ☼Black Bronze Coffin☼ encrusted with Black Diamonds.

I think the only way to restrict them is to set up a lockable room with workshop and very specific stockpiles in it. Maybe put a lever in there, use Profile to set your gem setter as the only guy who can operate it, then use Pull Lever to force him into the room. Once he's in lock the doors and tell him to Encrust. He will only have access to the "correct" items. Personally if I was going to that bother I'd have food and booze and an assigned bed all in there and not let him out til the booze stocks run low!

Nope. It is four letters, but has only one of those letters in it.

You could always abandon and reclaim. But I think it would be more fun to see if you can survive and recover from the HFS.

Population stabilized at 23 dwarves. Most were Wood/Bone carvers. I could have tried rebuilding, but I didn't feel like it...
