Because back in those days, Communism was treated like a virus. I learnt about the McCarthy witch hunts in history lessons. From the sounds of it you could call someone a communist for no reason and they'd be arrested.

I suppose the idea of Japan in communist hands was just too awful for them to consider.  I mean, the Japanese at the time may have been imperialist and expansionist, but at least they weren't them damn commies.

Stalin was a factor as well. He wasn't exactly benevolent. I won't quote figures because every single source would say a different amount. But still, Russians are awesome. Only second to Finland.

I'll quote some. Stalin killed lots more people than Hitler did.

Japan was basically screwed after the fall of Nazi Germany.  If Russia declared war on it (it never did, in the end) it would have collapsed very, very quickly.  This is why it is thought that the atomic bombs were dropped to prevent Japan from falling into Soviet hands.

Actually, the Russians did declare war, and invaded Manchuria to boot. It is speculated that the reason Japan surrendered was not just because of the atomic bombs, but also because they were afraid of a Soviet invasion.

Quote from: wikipedia
Researchers before the 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union attempting to count the number of people killed under Stalin's regime produced estimates ranging from 3 to 60 million. After the Soviet Union dissolved, evidence from the Soviet archives also became available, containing official records of the execution of approximately 800,000 prisoners under Stalin for either political or criminal offenses, around 1.7 million deaths in the Gulags and some 390,000 deaths during kulak forced resettlement – for a total of about 3 million officially recorded victims in these categories.

For some perspective, 3,000,000 is roughly 1/3rd of all Soviet military deaths. Of strictly civilian deaths, that would be anywhere from a little less than 1/4th to a little less than 1/6th of all civilian deaths (depending on the estimate) within the USSR during WWII.

Ho boy. Here we go.

Anyway, we all know America started it. Really, Russia started it, but that's not the heart of the issue.

The fact that you 'take a shit' on the death of 3000 Americans is just as bad as taking a shit on 30000000 other people dying in the world. The death of one person is a bad thing, numbers don't make a death okay in proportion. You may not like someone but the moment you say 'these deaths didn't matter' you have violated one thing we should agree on. The sacredness of life.

That was disgusting of you.

I've just sayed it that way so that someone can see that American lives are supposedly more valuable than that of a starving African (or an iraqi civilian)

They. Are. Not.

Death in and of itself is a bad thing. But you claiming to 'take a shit' on the deaths of someone, anyone, is inexcusable. It means that you consider someone life to be more valuable to someone else's. Claiming that people care less about a dying African than a dying American whilst explicitly stating that you don't care about 3000 Americans dying when compared to tens of thousands of Iraqis dying (which is also terrible) is blatant hypocrisy.

They also comprise of the greatest car racers in the world.

Finland is a country of badassery.

As for Dwarf, Jackrabbit summed up my views rather well. You are a Hypocrite Dwarf, for putting American lives in the crapper. The message I assume you are trying to portray is that Americans should not feel their lives are worth more. However, you have failed in two ways:

 1. You didn't make it equal, you portrayed lives that died in a viscous attack as worthless. That is just as bad as the supposed people you berate. Americans, Africans, Dictator or Saint, lives are sacred no matter what you believe in. Americans and their deaths are nothing to 'shit upon'.

 2. Of damn well course we would mourn and act differently on our own deaths than of ours, they are our people. If a family member of yours died, it will have you act much differently than that starving guy a million miles away we know is dieing right now. Does this make you as bad as 'idiot Americans'? Hell, the starving Africans and dying middle-easterners would do the same. Their people were attacked.

While there is some sense in the idea that people should not think one life is worth more than another(except for material, economic or political ramifications of a Leader dieing as opposed to a Beggar), you did it in a horrible way.
