Just for fun, I made a Wordle of the transcripts of the last two shows (with names removed):

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nice.
I made one from dev_next too:

This program is fun, i am going to paste everything into it from now. ;)

I found the animal sounds distracting and dumb sounding. I'm perfectly fine with "uh" and "like" being in there, because that's just how people talk, but editing in nonsense like that just annoys me.

Well, if that's how you feel... get ready for more dumb!

WHOA! Lets not up the sound effects (especially since they much louder then the Audio and very intrusive), it was refreshing but it aint Mentos.

I really can't fathom what you were thinking when adding those animal sounds. What a horrible idea  :P

I think the hosts should take the fact that people are complaining about 2 seconds of animal noises as an indication that the show was otherwise very well conducted.

I personally didn't care for them but not to the point where I felt the need to say anything.

I can't really think of any situation that really needs sound effects added- especially since adding 'content' post-recording seems less genuine than, say, having a soundboard actually present during the sessions.

But who needs that when we have Tarn's wonderful voice talents handy!

I was rather upset about the long editing period.

Geez. It was only a couple of days. :)

I guess it might be more fun though if the talks went up on the first of every month, along with the monthly project update. Maybe it wouldn't be hard if the actual recording was made a week or two in advance? Although adding any deadlines at all to this production might take the fun out of it for the people involved.. Anyway, just a thought.

Hehe, I thought they were kinda funny, it was the sudden spike in volume that scared the crap out of me. :p

I'm trying to slowly ramp up the production quality each time.  The animal sounds were an experiment, although I didn't realize that they were too loud.  It's an experimental process, and I'll be trying out new things each time.  As far as that goes, I feel like it would be nice if you guys didn't say something was "dumb."  How about that you felt it didn't work, and why. I'm always open to making it better!  My influences in editing come from NPR, mainly This American Life, and Radio Lab.  Check them out, they're great!  You can find them for free on iTunes.

The noises were vaguely annoying, but not incredibly significant. The post-recording time was a bit worse, but not that much of an issue.  It was a lot better than the first cast's delay, and I don't really mind a few day's wait too much.

I'd like to see a few more community questions answered next time, and maybe see it go for a bit longer, but those aren't major issues.

Thanks for helping with the podcast guys.  I really appreciate it.

I'd observe something here. Complaints about the editing time are only likely to lead to less information coming out, as it will be easier not to say when it's been recorded, or being edited, or being transcribed, but for the first news about it to be its release. You can't be annoyed by a two day delay if you don't know when it's being delayed from.

Oh jeez, I seem to have spawned a shitstorm.

When I said I was *upset* I meant that I spent two days standing in front of my computer dancing like a small child who has to pee. After the first five hours or so, I really did have to pee, and that only made it worse.

I didn't mean to spawn an entire page of people glaring at me.

Here's a thought:

Don't feel constrained to ask the questions 100% as written.  Feel free to paraphrase them (ahead of time) into a more general discussion type question.  This also applies to opener questions, for the people who ask 5-6 different things about one topic (or multiple people on a similar topic.)

I.E.:

"So about subject X:  Where do you see it going in the future?"
blah blah blah blah.... blah
and then use the paraphrased user questions to keep the conversation moving.

(This more applies to normal interviews.  I understand Toady doesn't need a lot of prodding to talk about interesting DF tidbits)

Oh snap Ôo... that was was a harsh one.
Keep in mind, that comments like that kill the fun for the people investing their time into awesome stuff like podcasts. You might want to rephrase that a little - even though this might be what you think...
I did enjoy it very much, partly because I'm a big fan and partly because I enjoy podcasts in general. The music breaks are a new thing in podcasts I listen to... and they are ḿade of pure awesomite! Enjoyable.

But even though I didn't dislike the sounds that much, they were a bit loud - and unexpected.
Let's get you the picture... I was in the gym, having something a little too heavy hovering above my chest, and then... SUDDENLY ELEPHANTS... you get the idea ;).

Please DO continue to make these podcasts! The improvements are already visible (well... you know...) and I look forward to what you'll make. *Thumbs up*
