My current desktop cycles between backgrounds for the three Metroid Prime games every half hour. It's probably my favorite thing about Windows 7.

I just got my computer fixed, which meant a complete hard drive wipe. So no special desktop now, but I used to have a custom theme and everything before the wipe.

SPONTANEOUS DESKTOP CHANGE

Ahaha, that basically sums up my Black Wizard from FF1.
Nothin' like a mage equipped with the Ultima Weapon and a few Saber spells.

Let's face it, the best desktops are the ones you do yourself.

I advise you get Rainmeter. It's far more resource-friendly compared to Windows Sidebar. I know from experience. However, if you're going to keep Sidebar up; you might as well get this nifty little app.

http://www.animetheme.com/sidebar/
System Animator

I like it. It's a nice addition to the sidebar. It even has the function to animate as you play music. Pretty funny to watch sometimes (depending on what clip series you have setup/available, and what's being tracked/heard).

Here are some videos by the maker of it showing how it works and everything related to it.

[Giant image]

I've always thought that it would be neat to get a desktop like that and then have the icons look like the fit in the scene. If it's a map, have the castle be My Computer, a temple for Control Panel...

I wouldn't be one to practice that myself, though; Here's what I do:
