Ayup. Vista theme was too intensive on my computer. My graphics card is that bad.

Because I'm awfully too lazy to change the OS with all my stuff in nit and whatnot,
Is the look of stuff really the only differences between OS's?

Vista hogs about a GB of RAM while idling.

Vista hogs about a GB of RAM while idling.

That's because it handles the RAM differently. If I remember correctly, instead of trying to use as little as possible, it fetches things it thinks you might need and places it into the RAM beforehand so that in the case you do access it it goes much faster. The OS will gladly let this "prepared" RAM go when a program needs it.

No, it's not. That would be silly.

Anyways, use Windows 7 if you're going to upgrade. Much better.

Anyone know of a dock for Gnome that doesn't have you download a shitton of mono/gtk# libraries (e.g. Docky).

hes probably lacking some ram so you can
A:buy new ram chips up to 2gb (fast as hell)
B:get a readyboost flash drive to throw some extra memory without blowing out cash (cheaper but slow)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Note to self: Clean desktop of unused shortcuts.

I'm also wondering about desktop enhancement programs for XP. I want to make it slightly prettier and more functional but I don't know how much ram it eats up. I like to play Tf2 and I turn off pretty much everything so I can play it with no FPS issues whatsoever, so I don't want yet another thing eating it up. What would you guys recommend?

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Swap memory? You can expand Windows' swap file to as large as you want as long as you have enough disk space. It's in My Computer under Properties I think.

e, Yep, My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance -> Advanced, on Windows XP.
