Just icons.
They're, in order, from top to bottom:
Computer
Home
Delete
Porn
Stuff
Downloads
Torrents
School
Touhou shipping

What's that program you're working on anyway? Looks like some sort of genetic algorithm from those screenshots.

...Also, your background is ridiculously creepy.

I remember that.

He's working on a science fair project, programing a virtual oil spill cleaning robot.

Just the basic gnome terminal.
The backgrounds are sprites from a Pokemon romhack that replaces all of them with Touhous.

Yeah, this.
Except it's in a cyberpunk future, so it's radioactive waste, not oil.

Thank you.

Apparently outfitting you desktop in the likeness of a meme is ironic somehow.

I'm guessing that 's conky across the top? looks good :) took a bit of work to put together that config i'll bet

Arch's latest kernel update broke tint2's battery monitor (fortunately just after i dropped it) and ibam (also ibamtray... which i was using), so i've been hacking up a dzen-based battery monitor...

might switch to conky... but it kinda seems like overkill when all i really want is a battery meter...

This is why I always compile vanilla, it isn't as hard as they make it look, and you can get tons of help online too. If you're going with Conky, it shouldn't take too long to set up, took me about an hour to get the basic stuff going, and then another to figure out how to have it display info about my package manager. They have a nice documentation with all the objects right here. battery_bar, battery_percent and battery_time are what you're looking for.
