You crazy kids and your random assortments of icons. I for one enjoy a nice, clean desktop.

Why do you keep the recycle bin on the desktop? Do you ever drag something there? I do enjoy a nice clean desktop, and for that reason have no recycle bin on it. (Never use it anyway) Looks like this:

Hahaha, those are some pretty cool tights.

Anyways, yeah, I never use any icons on my desktop.  Generally the only reason things will be on there is because I'm either too lazy to get rid of them, or I don't know where they're actually located (and thus too lazy to look at the shortcut and find out).

You keep the recycle bin on the desktop so you can spot if theres something actually in it or not. If there is, either you hit the wrong button or you need to empty that stuff out.

You can right-click the recycle bin in windows 7 if its on your desktop and select "empty bin".
Wich is really usefull, and i cant have that function on the task bar, so i have it on my desktop.

You can have that on the taskbar. Just write a batch-script that empties the trash and put it there. My system is set to empty the bin on shutdown but there rarely is something in the trash because usually i really delete things (with rm) and not just put them in in the bin.
Edit: Google says it even is just a one-liner: rd /s %systemdrive%\$Recycle.bin

If I'm certain of what something does and certain I don't want it, I just shift-delete.  If I'm not certain, I send it to the bin to see if everything goes to hell if that one thing disappears.  Only time I empty out is when things have been sitting there for a while and I notice the world hasn't ended yet.

Not that any of this is relevant to anything and I'm really just contributing to a spiral of derailing.

Why not just have three tab groups in firefox instead of three windows? It would save some taskbar space.
